The MMORPG expansion World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is getting an official crossover with beloved tabletop board game Pandemic thanks to a newly-revealed collaboration between Blizzard Entertainment and Z-Man Games. The upcoming adventure is likely to follow the Pandemic System, which traditionally sees players work together to combat the worldwide spread of disease.

Wrath of the Lich King is the second expansion for the beloved MMORPG, World of Warcraft. As well as introducing the then-new realm of Northrend, the Wrath of the Lich King expansion also introduced the game's first hero class, the Death Knight. Players had to defeat the dreaded Lich King, whose evil forces were spreading throughout the new land. It followed the original WoW Burning Crusade expansion, releasing in 2008 to critical acclaim. It's considered to be one of the seminal expansions that made the game what it is today, and now it's entering the world of Pandemic.

As confirmed by Blizzard and Z-Man Games, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will get an official crossover with the Pandemic tabletop game. The game will be an official Pandemic System Board Game, as revealed in a new teaser trailer released by Z-Man Games. While more details are yet to be announced, the trailer does give gamers a hint at what to expect. The crossover will feature World of Warcraft miniatures, including the Lich King himself. A glimpse of the board shown in the video also reveals a number of World of Warcraft locations associated with the expansion, including Vault of Archavon, The Terrace of the Makers, and Thunderfall. "Frostmourne hungers! Can you defeat the dreaded Lich King? Or will you fall to his power?" reads the game's official teaser description.

The Pandemic board game is a cooperative strategy-based experience that sees up to four players team up to stop diseases from spreading across the world. The success of the original tabletop game has led to a number of spin-offs and expansions, including Pandemic Legacy Season 0, Pandemic - The Cure, and even Pandemic - Reign of Cthulhu. The original game has also been adapted into a video game, available on iOS and Android devices, as well as Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles. Other board game and video game collaborations have been revealed this year, including a Rainbow Six Siege tabletop game.

While it's not confirmed exactly how the World of Warcraft and Pandemic systems will cross over, it's a safe bet to assume that players will cooperatively try to defeat the Lich King and his minions. Blizzard and Z-Man Games have confirmed that more news and further details on the collaboration will be coming soon, but gamers won't have long to wait to get their hands on the official World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Pandemic System board game. The upcoming tabletop adventure has a release date of 2021, and players can find out more by keeping tabs on the Z-Man Games website.
