Blizzard is changing things up in the new World of Warcraft Dragonflight expansion by finally making it possible for more races to play as the rogue, priest, or mage class. Opening up these new race/class combinations is not only exciting for long-time players to be able to make new characters utilizing these changes, but could possibly point to a future where WoW classes are no longer defined by race limitations.

The upcoming expansion is going to be mind-boggling with how many changes WoW players are excited Dragonflight will bring to the game. The new Dracthyr Evoker race and class have captured the attention of many players. However, Blizzard's change of adding the rogue, priest, and mage classes to all the races other than Dracthyr is a notable shift. The Highmountain Tauren race will be particularly affected by this change as all three of these classes are added to it as new possibilities.

World of Warcraft's lead combat designer, Brian Holinka, confirmed in an interview with MrGM last spring that the Warcraft team wants to move towards making all classes available to all races without restriction. This change will begin with the rogues, mages, and priests in the Dragonflight pre-patch that comes out in the next few weeks. Other classes are expected to be receiving the same treatment over time. However, many of them, such as druids, would require more complex and lengthy animation modifications by the Warcraft team. Some races may even require new explanations and lore added to the classic World of Warcraft story to make sense.

All The New Race & Class Combinations Coming With World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight

The Dragonflight expansion's new Dracthyr Evoker is the first time that a playable race and class are uniquely connected, which seems to contradict the idea of all classes being available to all races anytime soon. Nevertheless, it serves to make both the new Dracthyr Evoker and the evolution of other classes open to all races more drastic in scope. The eight new race/class combinations are going to be available when the pre-patch for Dragonflight drops. While the date isn't announced yet, it should be soon, and will allow for players who make new characters with the new mixes to have a few weeks to level them before the expansion launches in full on November 28, 2022. For WoW players excited to try out the new race/class combinations, Dragonflight will also make leveling alts way easier.

While it may not seem as impressive as some other changes being brought with World of Warcraft's Dragonflight expansion, it actually goes much deeper than what you see at first glance. Making the rogue, priest, and mage classes available for all races is a wonderful change that could also usher in the goal of all races being able to utilize all classes. Besides, who doesn't want to see a Highmountain Tauren trying to be a stealthy rogue?
