The Shadowlands are getting a little bit bigger after a huge announcement at Blizzcon. The immensely popular eighth expansion to the gargantuanly popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is getting its first major content update, developer Blizzard announced. This is the first major update to Shadowlands since its release in October 2020 and is sure to come to the delight of most seasoned players.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was initially announced at Blizzcon 2019. The expansion allowed players to explore the realm of the dead - the titular Shadowlands. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands also featured a major overhaul to the game's leveling system and featured the introduction of level squish. The expansion also included access to the Death Knight class for new races, the introduction of Covenants, the typical additions of new dungeons, raids, and other smaller improvements. While these changes were largely embraced by World of Warcraft players, many have been wondering if and when new content would be coming to the Shadowlands.

With today's Blizzcon announcement, however, World of Warcraft's Twitter has confirmed that Patch 9.1 will be Shadowlands first major content patch. Named, "Chains of Domination," the patch will have players enter the new endgame zone of Korthia, the City of Secrets. Players will have to face the Jailer after he pulled this lost city into the Maw. Players will also be able to explore the Maw more fully and will have new dailies to complete. Of course, Patch 9.1 will also introduce a new raid, named "Sanctum of Domination." This is a 10-boss raid, with Sylvanas Windrunner as the final boss. There will also be a new eight-boss mythic dungeon for players to face.

Fans of World of Warcraft are already salivating at the possibilities that this new content update will provide. The biggest teaser is in finding out what happened to the Jailer and Anduin Wrynn after the cliffhanger of the Torghast's Twisting Corridor cinematic. Anduin appears to be corrupted and under the Jailer's control, so those interested in his story will be itching to play. Players will also join with the four Covenants - Kyrian, Night Fae, Necrolord, and Venthyr - in this new endgame campaign with plenty of new loot to collect.

World of Warcraft players have clearly been ready for new content for a while now. They've resorted to exploiting a glitch to create an army of magical bears in recent days. For those players who were tuning into Blizzcon hoping for more Shadowlands news, this announcement must elicit a lot of smiles. While the release date of Patch 9.1 is still unknown, at least now there's something to look forward to while wandering the Shadowlands.
