Marvel fans get together to pitch their most ridiculous casting suggestions for the MCU. Marvel Studios prides itself for nailing its casting. All characters in the franchise thus far have been cast by Sarah Halley Finn - from Robert Downey Jr. for Jon Favreau's Iron Man to the new crop of actors joining the universe for Phase 4. But just to mix it up a bit, loyal followers of the interconnected film series are sharing their own picks for certain characters - only this time, they're choosing the worst possible ones for their respective roles.

Amidst big action set pieces and massive crossover events, the MCU's backbone is its characters. Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and the creators of this world from the comics did a tremendous job in making these fictional heroes relatable and grounded. Marvel Studios' responsibility is to make sure that they're able to capture the core principles of these characters when adapting them on the big screen and choosing the actors to bring them to life is no easy feat. Looking at the selection fans have come up for their favorite heroes, there an infinite number of ways that MCU casting could've gone and can go wrong.

Comic book writer Gail Simone started the trend on Twitter when she asked her followers to "name a @marvel character, then pick the worst possible actor choice to play them" with the hashtag #terribleMCUcasting. Given the recent controversial comments from Scarlett Johansson, she reminded fans to "please resist the temptation to say ScarJo for everything." Of course, the public delivered with of their most ridiculous picks, check some of them below:

Despite its stellar casting history, Marvel has had some snafu regarding this matter. Fans were particularly frustrated with Tilda Swinton's casting as the Ancient One in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange since the character is portrayed as an old Asian being. Aside from that, diversity has also been an issue in the MCU particularly during Phase 1. That's the reason why some of these fan-casting in this fun social media project involves Ryan Gosling as T'Challa (played by Chadwick Boseman) and Betty White as Okoye (played by Danai Gurira) in Black Panther.

These choices may sound ridiculous, but let it not be forgotten that Marvel Studios has had some initial questionable picks for their title heroes. Many were skeptical about Downey's casting for a blockbuster that had a whole lot riding on it; people questioned whether the guy who played Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four films can be Captain America; and the public was confused when Feige, Halley and their team went for a relatively unknown like Chris Hemsworth for Thor. More recently, Chris Pratt's casting as Guardians of the Galaxy's Peter Quill/Star-Lord earned some raised eye brows. In the end, they all worked out in the MCU, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that some of the more plausible suggestions in this social media crowdsourcing can actually come to fruition.
