Horror movies have always been the go-to movie genre for lovers of macabre, titillation, and jump-scares. As a result, this genre has been spewed with innumerable movies every year to meet the outstanding demand. While some unoriginal movies in the genre went on to become cult classics, others did not enjoy such an esteemed fate. The reason behind some of these movies being perceived as bad or even hilarious has to be attributed to the ridiculous names they have.

These under-the-radar horror movie titles are perfect examples of gory puns and bizarre wordplay. They make even the faintest of hearts chuckle, thinking that they would rather die of laughter watching these movies than have goosebumps and nightmares. While some of these ridiculously titled movies do provide jump scares, their titles in general take away the scare quotient that they had the potential for.

Thankskilling (2009)

The evil turkey stars in Thankskilling

What could be more bizarre than a homicidal turkey out for blood during the festive occasion of Thanksgiving? Well, this is what the story of Thankskilling is. This 2008 slasher movie was directed and co-written by Jordan Downey, Tony Wilson, Grant Yaffee, and Brad Schulz.

Nothing establishes the proverb “Too many cooks spoil the broth,” or in this case, the title, than Thankskilling, meant as a pun on Thanksgiving. Although giving credit where it's due, the movie managed to accumulate a budget of $ 112,248 for its sequel in 2013, via a Kickstarter campaign.

The Gingerdead Man (2005)

The Gingerdead Man

Gary Busey plays the role of a homicidal gingerbread that has suddenly come alive in this comical, yet scary 2005 slasher movie. While Cookie Monster from The Muppets has been hugely loved by fans, this cookie monster is not one to be trifled with.

Possessed by the soul of a recently executed convicted killer, the gingerbread man is out to have his revenge on the woman who had been the cause of his incarceration and subsequent execution. If the concept does not seem ridiculous enough, the title definitely takes the cake.

Bikini Bloodbath Car Wash (2008)

Bikini Bloodbath Car Wash is a 2008 movie directed by Thomas Edward Seymour and Jonathan Gorman. Sequel to the 2006 movie Bikini Bloodbath, this movie too parodies the slasher genre that was so popular in the 1980s.

Although the title is quite ridiculous and suggestive, Bikini Bloodbath Car Wash tells the story of several college students who decide to organize a car wash as a means to raise funds for themselves. Unbeknownst to them, however, a murderous chef lurks in the shadows, planning to kill them one by one.

Monsturd (2003)

The turd monster from Monsturd (2003)

There are horror movies that can be considered as the best of all time, and then there are horror movies like Monsturd. This 2003 movie, directed by Rick Popko and Dan West, is more a comedy than a movie that has anything to do with horror.

The movie tells the story of a serial killer, who goes inside a sewer to hide. However, he soon finds himself having a reaction with the chemicals inside the sewer, which mutates him into a slimy and murderous monster.

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2006)

A still from Poultrygeist Night of the Chicken Dead (2006)

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, is a musical, black comedy, and also a horror movie. Directed by Gabriel Friedman and Lloyd Kaufman, this movie takes its pun-game to a whole new level.

In this movie, the plot sees a fried chicken joint from New Jersey turns several individuals into zombified chickens. In an even more absurd twist, New Jersey also has to contend with homicidal chickens roaming around, killing everyone too. It really does sound like a fowl plot.

Frankenhooker (1990)

Frankenhooker movie scene

There are many movies that provide an original twist on the classic story of Frankenstein, but nothing can possibly beat the comedy, Frankenhooker. A title that is not just funny but also a clear reflection of the entire story of the movie, Frankenhooker, is silly, bizarre, appalling, and outright ridiculous.

This Frank Henenlotter directed movie tells the story of Jeffrey Franken, a drop-out from medical school, who decides to bring his girlfriend back to life by reanimating her body.

Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (1977)

A still from Death Bed The Bed That Eats (1977)

There are diabolical horror movies about devil worshippers, and then there are diabolical horror movies about devilish beds. For those wondering what “devilish beds” might mean, Death Bed: The Bed That Eats should clear all doubts. Following the story of a demon who wanted to consummate his relationship with the woman he loved, the demon conjured a bed to make their lovemaking comfortable.

However, the woman definitely died. Saddened and distraught, the demon cries tears of blood, which in turn fall on the bed, making it come to life and yearn for blood. Every ten years when the demon comes back to life, the bed goes on a murderous-spree, consuming anybody who dares to sleep on it.

It's My Party And I'll Die If I Want To (2007)

It's My Party And I'll Die If I Want To poster

Most people can understand and relate to the saying "My house! My Rules!" but it definitely makes no sense when those rules comprise death and killing.

Apart from the ridiculous title, It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To, the movie also talks about a group of friends who take the ridiculous decision of celebrating a birthday party in a haunted house. As the party progresses, uninvited and undead guests crash the party, as bizarre and strange party games start to begin.

2 Lava 2 Lantula (2016)

Volcanic tarantulas in 2 Lava 2 Lantula

2 Lava 2 Lantula is a movie that would prove to be too uncomfortable for someone like Ron Weasley who, despite facing his fears and weaknesses, would find the concept of giant volcanic tarantulas to be highly displeasing. This movie is the sequel to the 2015 horror-sci-fi Lavalantula and creates its title as a parody and allusion to the second Fast and Furious movie. While it is genius in terms of being a parody, it does not make much sense when thought about as a title for a movie.

Furthermore, it follows up on its first installment by introducing the fire-breathing giant tarantulas that make Florida their preferred destination of attack this time around. This forces the humans to make a stand against the arachnid onslaught by wielding freeze-guns that spray sub-zero projectiles. Whoever thought fighting fire with fire was correct was definitely wrong.
