The new World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion adds a whole new island to explore, and along with it, a whole new series of gathering materials and crafting recipes to go along with the overhaul of professions in the game to make them a more integral part of the experience. Mining continues to be one of the most profitable and useful gathering professions in the game, and as such has been no exception.

With the new work order introduced in Dragonflight, material demand is higher than ever, and there’s sure to be a stream of blacksmiths in need of rare ores, and players may even need them themselves if they choose to go into that crafting profession. This makes knowing how to farm ores, especially the rare new ones added to the Dragon Isles, essential knowledge for enterprising players.

The New Ores In WoW: Dragonflight

World of Warcraft Ore

The new ores introduced in Dragonflight are Serevite and Draconium, and will be found across the 3 zones of the game. There is a third new ore, called Kaz’gorite, but this can only be obtained as a rare drop from a node of Serevite or Draconium. These are now some of the most useful ores in the game and will be used for all the new blacksmith recipes added in the expansion, so players should be sure to collect them whenever spotted. Additionally, players will sometimes find Rock Wall nodes throughout the Dragon Isles. Mining these nodes will break down the wall and reveal hidden areas that often contain even more ore to mine.

All nodes of the new ores added to World of Warcraft can have modifiers that slightly alter the drops from mining them. Generally, these give a chance for receiving one of the ‘Rousing’ elemental items introduced to the game.

Hardened

Nodes will have a chance to drop Rousing Earth.

Molten

Nodes will have a chance to drop Rousing Fire.

Primal

Nodes will have a chance to drop both Rousing Earth and Rousing Fire.

Infurious

Nodes will have a chance to drop Rousing Ire.

Titan-Touched

Nodes will have a chance to drop Rousing Order.

Rich

Nodes are the exception, with a chance to drop extra ore rather than an elemental material.

Another vital piece of information going into the Dragon Isles will be knowing where the Mining profession trainers are. Unfortunately, there are only two added in the new Zones, with one being Grun Ashbeard who can be found at the start of the Dragonflight expansion at the Wingrest Embassy, and the other being all the way at the end in Valdrakken, where players can find Sekita the Burrower in the main hub city added for the Isles.

WoW: Dragonflight The Waking Shore Farming Route

The coastal regions of the Dragon Isles contain the most ore, with the first three leveling areas containing the new ores of the game. The final area at the peak of the Dragon Isles, Thaldrazus, is less useful, with Dragonflight’s endgame area being mostly structures with little space for ores, and an awkward progression path makes it unideal for farming. With this in mind, players should stick to farming The Waking Shores, The Ohn’ahran Plains, and The Azure Span.

The starting location for the Dragonflight expansion, The Waking Shores, still contains plenty of ore to be dug up. The greatest areas are in the northeast of the map, and across the center.

For the northeast section, start from the Wingrest Embassy, then head west, towards Uktulut Backwater, following the southern edge of the volcanic region that houses Scalecracker Keep for plenty of ore on the sides of the mountains. From the east side of the river, head south. Keep heading that way, collecting the ore along the riverbanks, until reaching the Life Vault Ruins.

Now head east towards the Skytop Observatory, crossing the river and collecting all the ore up the mountain the observatory sits on. Then head back down the mountain north, through the marsh area, and back up to the Wingrest Embassy, collecting the rest of the ore in the mountainous region. This path is a safe bet for players new to Dragonflight, as it keeps to relatively secure areas.

The other ore deposits in The Waking Shores can be quite dangerous for players new to Dragonflight, with a lot of elite mobs that will give chase. It can be quite bountiful, however. Simply start at the Ruby Lifeshrine and travel towards the Dragonscale Base Camp, through the mountains south of them, then follow the cliff side northwest and make a beeline for the Obsidian Citadel, before heading to the mountain north of the Obsidian Bulwark. Then cross the river and follow the cliff side of the peninsula south back towards the Ruby Lifeshrine.

The Ohn’ahran Plains is the easiest of the 3 regions to set up a farming route for. Following these routes in Dragonflight is much easier with a flying mount, so following the story quests to unlock dragon riding will help a lot here. Simply skirting the edges of the area, so the mountains are always on one side will let players pick up the bundles of ore tucked away on their cliff sides. It’s easiest to start from Emberwatch coming right out of the Waking Shore, then heading either directly east or west and simply following the mountainous edges of the map back to Emberwatch, crossing the mouth of the river around the Shady Sanctuary.

Best Azure Span Ore Farming Locations in Dragonflight

The Azure Span is also a relatively simple area to mine in Dragonflight, where the majority of ore is concentrated on the edge of the mountains on the outskirts of the zone. However, this zone is filled with mobs, so use a leveled dragon to outpace them until they lose interest.

Starting from the entrance to the zone from the Ohn’ahran Plains, head west until the cliffs before the shore, then follow the shore until the mountains around the Azure Archive. Follow the outskirts of this area until the southern shoreline, then head north towards the waterfall, from there following the mountains to the east. Head through these snowy mountains in a straight line towards Vakthros, and straight past it into the mountains to the north.

Now, double back towards Rhonin’s Shield, and across the lake towards Camp Antonidas, stopping just short of it on the other side of the river. Follow the mountains leading up the Cobalt Assembly, before banking west to return to the Zone entrance. This route should contain boatloads of ore across the entire zone, and with this being one of World of Warcraft’s largest zones to date with the launch of Dragonflight, the ores will likely have re-spawned by the time players finish a whole lap.

With these routes aspiring miners should be able to collect plenty of the new ores introduced as part of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, and make use of the new profession system to get some of the great new expansion gear or to sell valuable materials on the auction house for buckets of gold.
