Later this month, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is finally releasing. After a month-long delay and some concerns over the beta, the eighth WoW expansion will bring a number of new features and changes. However, based on Shadowlands' sales numbers, more newcomers may be playing the game than ever before. For anyone looking to concentrate on a DPS class, some options are just better than others.

For those unfamiliar with the MMO's party mechanics, there are generally three classes: tanks, support, and DPS (damage dealers). After running for sixteen years, World of Warcraft already has a lot of classes to choose from, so it can be overwhelming for beginners. Based on what players experienced in the Shadowlands beta, there are a few clear winners for best DPS classes.

The Death Knight and Rogue classes can make great DPS choices in Shadowlands and appear to be fan favorites. Both classes are great for PvP and in Raids, which means they should be perfect for Shadowlands' endgame content. The Death Knight focuses on powerful melee damage and dark magic while the Rogue's damage output is built around stringing combos together quickly. However, there's also two other DPS classes that work great in Shadowlands: the Warlock and the Hunter.

As with other classes in World of Warcraft, player preferences will configure heavily into deciding which DPS class is best for Shadowlands. For anyone who prefers ranged magic attacks, the Warlock class is perfect. With plenty of debuffs, the Warlock's spells can cause damage-over-time to bring down enemies. For players who prefer keeping a safe distance during battle, ranged DPS classes are just about perfect.

The other great ranged DPS class for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the Hunter. Hunters can cause melee damage as well, but their ranged attacks really stand out. They also have pets, which can make them arguably the best DPS class for solo play. A Hunter's pet can easily tank enemies while players attack, which takes some of the pressure off of finding other members to join a party. And thanks to the new level squish in Shadowlands, leveling any of these DPS classes is easier than ever.

Longtime players will undoubtedly already have a class in mind before World of Warcraft: Shadowlands releases. However, newcomers may be interested in starting with Death Knight, Rogue, Warlock, or Hunter when starting the expansion as a damage dealer. It really all comes down to player preferences when deciding between the four. People can also experiment with all the DPS classes in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands to decide which one is right for them.
