Saber Interactive’s zombie-slaying sequel, World War Z: Aftermath, is out now and brings 60 FPS zombie action to PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game, which follows the story of the 2019's World War Z, was released to consoles and PC today. Reviews have pegged World War Z: Aftermath as an exhilarating follow-up to the original, with interesting new features, advanced AI, and of course, the ability to unload a whole lot of lead into undead hordes. Though it reportedly suffers from a few design flaws and the occasional bug, gamers can jump into the action in stunning 4K and 60 FPS.

World War Z: Aftermath is a third-person, four-player cooperative zombie shooter that adds to the original WWZ game that was released over two years ago. On top of improving on the original, the World War Z: Aftermath developers added new maps, mechanics, and stories for players to enjoy. And though it’s pegged as a sequel, the game straddles the line between its own entity and an enhanced edition of its predecessor. On top of its new content - such as 4K support for next-gen systems, a new player class, weapon customization, progression paths for characters, and melee combat improvements - the sequel also includes a brand new first-person perspective.

A brand new trailer for World War Z: Aftermath dropped, showing off the new 4K and 60 FPS support for new-gen consoles. The game is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $39.99, but can also be played with advanced features on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game has current-gen support at launch but will receive further enhancements such as support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S console features and a Horde Mode XL. That upgrade will be free for anyone who purchased the game on PS4, Xbox One, or PC. The game also includes all content from the Game of the Year Edition of World War Z. Players who already own that game can simply upgrade to Aftermath for $19.99.

The World War Z sequel game comes with a good deal of new content for fans of the franchise to enjoy. Whether gamers already dove into the original or are brand new to the series, Aftermath appears to be taking care of all types of fans - old and new. With the upgrade feature, those who own the original won’t have to splurge to jump into the sequel.

While World War Z: Aftermath seems to enhance the player experience without sacrificing the essential aspects of the original, the next couple of days will likely reveal whether its promises are delivered. Multi-console support and stunning, high quality visuals are great specs for a new game - but potentially heft promises. That being said, in Left 4 Dead fashion, it appears the developers delivered a successful sequel.
