Blizzard's World of Warcraft: Shadowlands predominantly takes place in the world's various versions of afterlife, so it is no surprise that characters once thought dead are returning in the expansion. Although most of the WoW characters that make their return are beloved or reviled by most of the game's fans, others have been mostly forgotten. One questline near the end of the World of Warcraft: Shadowland's "campaign" brings back a minor character from the original game, although it is easy to miss for players rushing their way to level 60.

While questing through the zone of Revendreth, the player will be asked to help a character named The Fearstalker torture some spirits that did terrible things in life. The spirit that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players are tasked with working with is named Houndmaster Loksey, and the player completes multiple quests in order to prepare Loksey for the "Penitent Hunt." Although it is not overtly said, players who read through the quest and surrounding clues can figure out who Loksey is.

Houndmaster Loksey was a minor character in the original World of Warcraft, and remained in the game until the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Loksey was the first boss within the Library Wing of Scarlet Monastery, a dungeon that is located in the Tirisfall Glades. Since Scarlet Monastery was not a high-level dungeon, Loksey may not have been an especially memorable boss for veteran players, which means he could easily have been forgotten.

Why Houndmaster Loksey Was Sent To The Shadowlands

The Scarlet Crusade was a corrupt group of zealots that intended to wipe out everything undead, and Loksey was an important member within their ranks. His sin was using his beasts, the hounds, against others, and this wrongdoing is what eventually resulted in him being sent to Revendreth for repentance. His sinstone, which lists what spirits have done and how they will be treated, states that "Fear was his favorite weapon, so fear shall be his teacher."

The chain in which the player hunts for Loksey is one of the more interesting questlines in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, and is clearly a reference meant for veteran fans. Although Loksey is no longer a boss in the current Scarlet Monastery, fans who also play World of Warcraft: Classic can still enjoy the original Scarlet Monastery. This means that even newer players may be able to recognize Loksey as soon as they meet him in Revendreth.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is at its best when players get to interact with the vast array of unique NPCs the world has to offer. Considering Houndmaster Loksey is not a major character, his inclusion shows the care that Blizzard has put into preparing the leveling experience of the expansion. As players continue to level, they can remain on the lookout for more Easter eggs similar to Loksey's inclusion.
