Some new details about the upcoming first major content patch for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands have leaked ahead of BlizzCon, which begins February 19. Blizzard Entertainment's yearly convention was rebranded as BlizzConline for 2021 as the whole event will take place virtually due to continued COVID-19 concerns.

Last year, BlizzCon 2020 was cancelled due to the then-emerging COVID-19 pandemic. While the social situation has changed little since then, Blizzard has adapted to the circumstances to make the entire event take place online. This year's event will be free to watch and feature many of the traditional elements that make BlizzCon what it is, albeit virtually. The event starts at 5 pm EST tomorrow and runs until 7 pm the following day, however, some fans may not be as inclined to watch now that the majority of the information has become available early.

Blizzard accidentally released its entire press kit for BlizzConline a day ahead of schedule and wowhead.com managed to sift through the information to provide some details for what World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players can expect in the near future. The name of the first major content patch (patch 9.1) is Chains of Domination and is set after the defeat of Sire Denathrius. Players will delve deeper into the Jailer's realm, fighting to get to the seat of his power and facing down a new champion in his service. Besides the story, there are also some new gameplay elements including a mega-dungeon and flying.

World of Warcraft: Classic was also a victim of the leak and now players know that it will be receiving the Burning Crusade expansion. Originally released in 2007, Blizzard seeks to recreate the first World of Warcraft expansion by allowing players to return to Outland to relive some classic adventures. That said, there is also the Dark Portal that players can venture into for new adventures. Like Shadowlands, Classic will get some gameplay adjustments as well to go along with the story-driven content.

It is a shame that the majority of what Blizzard was going to reveal got spoiled the literal day before BlizzConline. There is no doubt that the game developer wanted to come out strong with their presentations, especially since last year's event was unceremoniously canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. However, that still does not mean Blizzard will wow its fans (pun intended) with whatever it showcases over the next two days. Even though the public knows what is coming for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, it still is not the same as seeing it for the first time.
