Wordle memes have begun to take over Twitter, and Pac-Man creator Bandai Namco is taking full advantage. By now, just about everyone has at least heard of Wordle, which has taken over social media. Not only are players posting their scores on Twitter, but now they are using the familiar block patterns to form pictures, memes, and other jokes.

Free-to-play word puzzle Wordle has taken over Twitter, with players posting their scores via blocky patterns. Due to its popularity, Wordle has led to a number of copycats, with an app clone that has drawn ire from players who believe it has taken away the appeal of the original game. Although Wordle's creator promised that the web game would have no ads, microtransactions, or any subscription to play, but the app added all of these features. Luckily, the popular web app remains accessible to all. The blocks have shown up across Twitter and now players are creating pictures or funny memes. One famed gaming company has taken advantage.

Developer Bandai Namco posted on Twitter a familiar block pattern, that of one of gaming's oldest protagonists, Pac-Man. The text above, which normally refers to a Wordle's puzzle number and how many guesses it took to correctly guess the word, instead refers to Pac-Man 99, the newest game in the Pac-Man series which was released for the Nintendo Switch in April of 2021. Veteran players of the classic arcade game and Wordle aficionados got quite the chuckle from this meme.

Wordle may not develop the same sort of legacy that Pac-Man has, but the fact that Bandai Namco is acknowledging the latest hot trend in gaming is quite significant. Developed only by a single, independent creator, Wordle's creator Josh Wardle seems to be committed to keeping the game as accessible and simple as possible. Even though Pac-Man came out well before video games became a multi-billion dollar industry, Bandai Namco has been involved with the development of many massive gaming properties, including Dark Souls. The gaming giant paying respect to such a small game shows just how far indie games can reach when they're made well.

The Wordle memes on Twitter, are likely to continue thanks in part to tweets like this from Bandai Namco, most players are going to continue posting scores as they try to decipher the Wordle puzzle of the day. Even though Wordle might not turn out to be more than a gaming fad, it has caught the attention of some of the industry's giants, like the original Pac-Man creator.
