Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Benedict Wong reacts to fan calls for a Wong Disney+ TV show. The MCU sorcerer was introduced in the first Doctor Strange movie as the Kamar Taj librarian and eventual friend and ally to Stephen Strange. While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is just the second entry in that series, it will mark Wong's sixth appearance in the expansive franchise.

Since being established as a loyal companion of Doctor Strange, Marvel has hinted at Wong having a rich life of his own in MCU Phase 4 projects. In a small appearance in Shang-Chi, he is shown participating in cage matches at the Golden Daggers Club, and apparently has some sort of friendship with his sparring partner, Abomination. In a similar cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, viewers learn that Wong succeeded Strange as Sorcerer Supreme following the Avenger's disintegration during the Blip, and remains in the role despite his friend's return.

Now, as audiences finally see his turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wong responds to the fans calling for his character to get a dedicated Disney+ series. During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor enthusiastically embraces the idea, saying there's plenty of material for a good series. He points out that Wong spent the five years between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame running the mystical world on his own, and that a show set at Kamar Taj could be of interest to Marvel viewers. Check out his full response below:

I'd love it, I'd love it... You know, what happened to Wong during the Infinity War, you know there's a five year period we could start with... Well, he took a deep breath, because it was pretty full-on out there, wasn't it? [...] Training his students at Kamar Taj...

Based on how often he's appeared in recent Marvel movies, Kevin Feige & Co. clearly have a plan for Wong. The character's mixture of competence, wisdom, and comic relief has helped him connect with viewers, and unlike the many non-superpowered "sidekicks" to MCU headliners, he can hold his own in a battle against the most dangerous of foes. The idea of a Wong Disney+ series is an intriguing one that could not only develop a beloved supporting character, but also dive deeper into the mystic arts, which have so far been underexplored in favor of cosmic power-sources.

However, if a solo-show isn't in the cards, Wong has a clear path to more prominent appearances outside of the Doctor Strange series. The current Sorcerer Supreme was seen in the Shang-Chi credits scene explaining the Ten Rings, and even stopped in for some karaoke with Shang-Chi and Katy, suggesting he could have a part to play in that franchise's future. However they accomplish it post-Doctor Strange 2, it's clear to audiences that the more Wong they get, the better.
