DC has revealed the cause of Wonder Woman's upcoming civil war: the murder of an Amazon. Trial of the Amazons is set to be the biggest crossover event in the heroine's history at DC Comics. Three factions of Amazons are coming together violently, and it isn't hard to understand why, even if it isn't yet known who will be killed.

The Amazons have recently been seeing a rise in challenges in Themyscira, Bana-Mighdall, and the newly introduced Esquecida. Nubia, the current queen of Themyscira, has been trying to lead the Amazons into the future, while needing to find a protector for Doom's Doorway. Artemis has seen a rise in monster attacks in Bana-Mighdall, stemming from creatures that have escaped from Doom's Doorway. The Esquecida were introduced in the recently-cancelled Wonder Girl series, and they recently marched on Olympus. Now, all three will come together in one of the biggest meetings of Wonder Woman's comic history.

On Twitter, DC Nation shared a behind the scenes look at the upcoming event, which provides numerous details. This DC Nation Special Edition provides an overview of the event's context, the role some of the major characters will play within it, and it provides the issues that will be involved. There is also a checklist of the seven Wonder Family issues that will make up the event, which spans two months. It will include two issues of Trial of the Amazons, as well as tie-ins with Nubia and the Amazons, Wonder Woman, and Wonder Girl.

The murder is not going to be easily dismissible by readers, as the behind-the-scenes look features the creative team discussing its occurrence. Michael W. Conrad says, "A very significant character is going to die. It's hard for me to even think about, because it's a character that I care about so much." Conrad adds, "You're going to be along for this winding journey to find out who killed this character. We're going to break your heart." The event also promises to be the first of its kind for Wonder Woman, as its scale is unprecedented within her comic history. The Wonder Family is coming together, but it may also find itself at odds, as some of the issue synopses suggest Nubia and Diana may find themselves having opposing methods of solving this murder mystery.

As part of the event, Themyscira's iconic Contest returns, and Yara Flor will be participating in it. She'll finally be interacting with the other major Wonder Women in DC's lineup. This will be their first major interaction. Diana recently underwent a massive independent trial when Infinite Frontier began, and nothing seems to be getting any easier for her. She has her hands full managing numerous threats to the world as well as Themyscira, which makes it particularly interesting that the Amazon factions will be coming to a violent head. The paradigm between the various tribes will likely undergo a major shift, especially since Wonder Woman co-writer Becky Cloonan has stated, "Nothing's going to be the same after this." Fans can find out which Amazon will meet their doom and what the fallout will be when Trial of the Amazons begins on March 1.
