Warning: includes a preview for Wonder Woman #780!

DC Comics has released details for Wonder Woman #780 which showcases Diana Prince's return to Earth! In Dark Knights: Death Metal, Wonder Woman was a key player in taking down the Darkest Knight. Diana even went as far as to sacrifice herself in order to save the multiverse. Wonder Woman's heroic sacrifice led to her being recruited by DC's gods, the Quintessence. They saved Diana and took her to their plane outside of mortal existence to give offer her a role in their council of gods.

However, in Infinite Frontier #0, Wonder Woman was taken on a tour of the multiverse to check up on her fellow heroes to see that they are doing well, post-Dark Knights: Death Metal. After Spectre showed Wonder Woman that her friends will cope in her absence, Diana was forced to make a decision. Will she join the Quintessence and become a literal god or will she reject them? Well, as history goes, Wonder Woman rejects the Quintessence's proposal and decides to return to the mortal realm of the living! Unfortunately for her, she had to endure a detour in the Norse afterlife of Valhalla.

Now, DC Comics has finally confirmed the return of Diana Prince! But things won’t be so easy for Wonder Woman as she comes home to a very different place. Finding out that the world would be fine even if you weren’t there is tough enough to grasp, but actually returning and realizing that it’s true is a whole other thing. Wonder Woman’s new path will be established in the upcoming Wonder Woman #780, which will be fittingly oversized given that it’s an incredibly important step for the character. Check out the cover art for the issue below:

In the issue, readers will find out what has taken Diana so long to get home. Wonder Woman’s return shouldn’t have taken that long, considering that she was already on her way back at the end of Infinite Frontier #0. Could it be that she ran into some trouble along the way, causing her return to be delayed by many months? Or does it actually take that long to return without the help of the Quintessence, who died right after Wonder Woman rejected them.

Ultimately, it’s exciting to see Infinite Frontier’s Wonder Woman finally return. But will she be in the spotlight like she was before? Probably not, as DC has teased that she will be forced to forge a new path. Also, Yara Flor and Nubia are making huge moves right now as a new generation of Wonder Woman. Their heroic acts could potentially overshadow Diana’s efforts. Where Wonder Woman will fit into DC’s new era remains a mystery, but if anything’s clear it’s that Diana Prince’s path ahead will not be easy. Not only will she face the hardships of adapting back to a normal life, but also the struggles of taking down whoever turns out to be her new main villain. Wonder Woman #780 releases on October 12, which is one of the twelve titles that will celebrate the iconic hero’s 80th birthday.
