Warning: contains major spoilers for Sensational Wonder Woman #6!

Wonder Woman is a fierce warrior, but she's also highly fashionable. Sensational Wonder Woman #6 sees her in a blue dress reminiscent of the one she wore in Wonder Woman (2017), before needing to fight Mr. Freeze. Regardless of the evening's required attire, Diana is still ready for action.

In Wonder Woman (2017), Diana attends a different gala - at the German High Command. She also wears a blue gown to this event, but she is prevented from attacking her enemy by Steve Trevor. Ultimately, Wonder Woman attends the party and leaves without very much trouble. This results in a fatal gas attack on Veld, the village she had previously saved after crossing No Man's Land. Diana rides on horseback to see the fate of Veld and a brief clip is shown of her tossing back the dress in favor of her armor. However, this can hardly be called a superhero costume change. It is a blink and you'll miss it generic scene with no cinematic appeal. It's purely functional to show that she does indeed change and not at all noteworthy.

Created by the team of Alyssa Wong, Eleonora Carlini, Enrica Eren Angiolini, and Travis Lanham, Sensational Wonder Woman #6 gives the titular character a superhero costume change moment that would be cinematically perfect. This issue features Wonder Woman at a museum gala being hosted by Bruce Wayne. The event is crashed by Mr. Freeze, but this time, Diana is able to engage with her foe openly - despite being in a dress. She begins using her lasso, but partway through the fight, she notices a case containing a shield and spear - which she adds to her ensemble after a quick change.

An image of Wonder Woman staring confidently at the camera in full armor, proclaiming "Now I'm dressed for the party."

Wonder Woman removes her gown, revealing that her signature outfit has been on underneath the entire time - just in case. Diana then equips herself with the spear and shield, completely ready to fight comfortably. While it is awesome to see Wonder Woman holding her own in her evening wear, superhero costume changes like this are also amazing - particularly when done right. Wonder Woman (2017) had a lot of stunning cinematic sequences, such as when she crosses No Man's Land. However, it doesn't give Diana a satisfying costume change. She had her sword hidden in her gown, ready to go, but Steve stopped her from using it.

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) similarly failed. While she does change into Asteria's Golden Eagle armor in preparation to face Cheetah and Maxwell Lord, there is no change mid-battle. Dropping Asteria's wings while in the armor also didn't feel like a satisfying change, since it seemed like more of a downgrade. In Sensational Wonder Woman #6, however, Wonder Woman proves that she is a versatile fighter, ready to go at a moment's notice, without downgrading her look or being forced to choose between one or the other from scene to scene. She can have both and choose which she is more comfortable with in any situation.

Diana is a warrior first and foremost. She was raised as a warrior by a society that values skill in combat and great strength. The Amazons are truly a warrior society with important battles in their history. It makes sense that she would be ready to jump into battle at almost any moment. Despite living amongst normal humans, she never stops being on hero duty. She has a broad wardrobe to fit many occasions, especially in the movies. Wonder Woman is fashionable, but always ready to save the day. This comic proves that the films' writers missed an opportunity to give her an absolutely epic costume change sequence even though she already had everything she needed.
