Warning: contains spoilers for Wonder Woman #770 and a summary for the yet to be published Wonder Woman #773!

A DC Comics cover for Wonder Woman #773 reveals Diana will soon will be wielding Mjolnir, the legendary hammer of the Norse God Thor, as she investigates the truth behind her apparent afterlife in the never-ending battle of Valhalla. The cover shows Diana hurling the weapon with all her might, as well as it crackling with electricity, suggesting Wonder Woman will also be taking on some of the thunder god's supernatural abilities.

After ascending from the mortal plane in Dark Nights: Death Metal #7, Diana was offered a place among the godlike quintessence. But wary of the unseen threat she'd be warned to guard against and unwilling to abandon her friends and allies on the cusp of a bright new frontier, Wonder Woman turned down the role in Infinite Frontier #0. Most recently, Wonder Woman #770 revealed that Diana is apparently dead, having entered the Sphere of the Gods and landed amidst the endless, good-natured battle of Valhalla, where day after day she fights until death, awakening to feasting and merriment in the evening.

Now, a cover shared by League of Comic Geeks reveals that Diana's foray into Norse mythology will see her wield an incredible weapon in the form of Mjolnir, Thor's short-handled hammer. Of course, this isn't the Thor of Marvel Comics fame (though Diana has also used that Mjolnir in the past), so Wonder Woman won't have to prove her worth - just her godly strength and likely her personal connection to the divine energies that are both her birthright and her heroic reward. Enjoy the cover below, as well as a summary of the comic - Wonder Woman #773 is several issues in the future, so beware of spoilers!

All the treacherous roads of Asgard have led here…the fortress of the Valkyries! These deciders of death on the battlefield have grown tired of the ways of their world and have turned it upside down to remake it in their image. Can Wonder Woman broker peace between these mighty maidens and the men whose fate lies in their hands? This has the makings of a war our hero may never win!

Wonder Woman 773 cover

Though Wonder Woman is traditionally linked to Greek mythology as the daughter of Zeus, this isn't the first appearance of Thor in a DC comic, since both DC and Marvel have long had their own versions of heroes from classic myths and legends. In fact, the angular, rune-covered weapon Wonder Woman is hurling at her Valkyrie enemies has more in common with historic depictions of Thor's weapon than that wielded by the Marvel Comics hero. Thankfully, the blood of a weather god already runs through Diana's veins, so while she was impressed by Thor's battle prowess in Wonder Woman #770, there's no reason to expect she'll be any less impressive once she gets her hands on Mjolnir.

Lacking memories of her past and enjoying the endless fighting and feasting, Diana has only just expressed an interest in investigating the dark deeds seemingly lurking behind the scenes in Valhalla, despite the squirrel Ratatosk's warnings about an oncoming Ragnarok. Coming June 8, Wonder Woman #773 seems as if it will see Diana track down the origins of the upheaval, and deal with them in proper godly fashion - crackling with lighting, and letting Mjolnir do the talking.

Fans have already speculated that Wonder Woman may be lost in mythology for some time, with the Sphere of the Gods prolonging her absence from the Earthly plane and helping to give her Dark Nights: Death Metal passing some added weight while still telling great stories with Diana. If that absence leads to more awesome moments like Wonder Woman wielding Thor's hammer Mjolnir, then hopefully it'll be a long time before Diana finds her way home.
