Warning! Spoilers for Wonder Woman #771 ahead!
Wonder Woman just got Dr. Psycho to sing like a little bird even without her Lasso of Truth. Even though she doesn't find out what she needs, it's still incredible that she squeezes as much information from the villain as she does using a normal rope, especially since she retains no memories of her ever possessing an artifact like the Lass of Truth, let alone how to use one.
Diana comes across Dr. Psycho when trying to prevent the end of days while trapped in Valhalla in Wonder Woman #771, written by Jordie Bellaire, Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad with art by Paulina Ganucheau and Travis Moore. Diana has found herself trapped in the Norse afterlife and at first everything is going great. Each night, she engages in epic battles against powerful enemies and later drinks to the upcoming slaughter until the wee hours of the morning. But then her fallen comrades who are meant to return never do.
Although Wonder Woman doesn't remember she's a hero, Diana feels compelled to investigate and eventually meets a talking squirrel named Ratatoskr who reveals that the sacred tree Yggdrasil, around which all else exists, is dying and foretells the coming of Ragnarok, a major cataclysm. What's worse, the Valkyries who are tasked with bringing back the fallen foes who die in Valhalla are disappearing.
Because Thor is kind of a jerk, Wonder Woman is forced to look for Asgardian dwarves to craft her a blade to aide her on this newfound quest. When she finds Dr. Psycho instead, the Amazon Queen understandably suspects that the villain is either the source of these aforementioned problems or knows something about them. Even though she possesses no memories of her time as Wonder Woman, Diana decides to squeeze the truth out of Dr. Psycho with a rope she randomly finds, in a similar manner to how she once used the Lasso of Truth. Her utilization of the rope is so effective that Dr. Psycho reveals all he knows, but, unfortunately, there is no correlation between him and the end of days. But he does point her in the direction of where to go next.
Diana's success without the Lasso of Truth begs the question as to whether or not she actually needs the ancient artifact to compel those who are restrained within its shining cords to speak the truth. But how could this be even possible? It's first revealed that, when she grasps the rope, she's already familiar with its application before she begins coaxing the truth from Dr. Psycho. This suggests that either he's weak willed or that, as the bringer of truth, Diana can accomplish this monumental task on her own. It should also be noted that, during the Death Metal event, Wonder Woman fused with the Lasso of Truth, so could this fusion have been permanent? Could she literally be the living embodiment of its powers? It seems likely, as she is able to coax the truth out of people all on her own.
