Warning! Contains spoilers for Jurassic League #2!

While Wonder Woman's invisible jet has long been ridiculed, a new prehistoric redesign of it breathes new life and potential into the old vehicle. The updated version of the jet is featured in Jurassic League, a fun reimagining of the Justice League as dinosaurs. Although the dinosaur version of the jet could be seen as just a goofy joke, it actually brilliantly solves a lot of problems that the vehicle has in the mainstream DC universe.

The invisible jet is one of Wonder Woman's oldest tools. While the modern incarnation of the Wonder Woman can fly using her own power, initially this was not the case. So having an invisible jet was very helpful to her. Some modern storylines have featured Wonder Woman's plane, but nowadays the invisible jet is largely seen as an outdated remnant from the character's older stories. However, Jurassic League has managed to cleverly make Diana's iconic vehicle relevant again.

In Jurassic League #2 by Juan Gedeon and Daniel Warren Johnson, Wonderdon leaves her home island of Trimyscira to travel to the mainland and unite with the heroes in her visions. She travels on an invisible Pteranodon named Thunder-Beak, which is clearly meant to be the prehistoric version of Wonder Woman's invisible jet. This could potentially feel out of place tonally in other modern-day DC comics that are generally more grounded, but it fits very well with the ridiculous nature of Jurassic League. It is unclear if this dinosaur version of Wonder Woman can fly as the normal one can, but even if she could, having an invisible Pteranodon has many benefits compared to having an invisible jet.

Wonderdon issues an order to Thunder-Beak to stay back while she fights Giganta and Brontozarro which shows that Thunder-Beak can obey its rider's commands. It stands to reason then that Wonderdon could use Thunder-Beak in battle, as a flying, invisible ally could be hard for her enemies to deal with. In addition to its usefulness in battle, Thunder-Beak is also adorable, with its reactions giving it a personality that the invisible jet lacks.

Although Wonder Woman will probably never get an invisible pteranodon in the mainstream DC universe (although given the strange history of Wonder Woman's plane, anything is possible), the invisible jet can be upgraded to be more like Thunder-Beak. If an AI program with a personality was uploaded into the jet, then it could both fight alongside Wonder Woman without needing a pilot and also be entertaining to watch in battle. While the invisible jet did once have artificial intelligence, it was much less fun of a companion than Thunder-Beak. So not only is Thunder-Beak a cooler version of the invisible jet, they are also an example of how one of Wonder Woman's most iconic tools can be effectively modernized.
