Warning: includes a preview for Dark Knights of Steel #2!

In Dark Knights of Steel #2, Wonder Woman gets a new medieval-inspired look as she prepares for battle. Tom Taylor and Yasmine Putri’s highly anticipated new series is set to explore a world of high-fantasy. The announcement was heavily teased by Taylor on Twitter. The writer promised that the new series will be an exciting addition to DC’s current stable of comics. When Taylor finally announced the official title and details, it was met with loud applause from fans.

Set in an alternate fictional world, Dark Knights of Steel sees many of DC’s most iconic characters in a brand-new, medieval setting. The comic promises to explore “a generational high-fantasy tale of good and bad within the DCU.” It’s an easy shift to place comic book heroes in a world like this given that both superhero and high-fantasy stories are usually governed by good and evil. Everything always ends in battle, no matter what, in both types of tales. However, medieval tales have added swords and shields as opposed to alien superpowers.

Now, DC Comics has released the cover art and solicitation for Dark Knights of Steel #2. The solicitation teases a shocking assassination that rocks the world's kingdoms. Whoever is killed is obviously a very important figure given the impact of their death. Much like how World War I began, the assassination of this person will lead DC’s kingdoms to the brink of war. And it seems that Wonder Woman, among DC’s other heroes, is right in the middle of it.

  • The epic high-fantasy DC Universe adventure continues as a shocking assassination has the kingdoms on the brink of world war! From worldwide bestselling writer Tom Taylor (DCeased, Superman: Son of Kal-El) and acclaimed artist Yasmine Putri comes a generational high-fantasy tale of good and evil within the DCU!

In the issue’s cover art, Wonder Woman sports a new fantasy-inspired look. The main difference to Wonder Woman’s usual costume is the fact that she wears Saxon style armor. However, given that it’s a fantasy, artistic liberties have been taken in regards to her outfit’s historical accuracy. Nevertheless, it seems that she will be teaming up with medieval Batman and Superman, as teased in the cover art for issue one. It’s always exciting to see alternate versions of fan-favorite heroes and by exploring a whole new world, Taylor and Putri have complete freedom when it comes to world-building!

The mystery of the murderer and the assassinated victim is yet to be revealed. However, it can be assumed that it’s a character to who fans have some form of a relationship too, in DC’s main timeline. Either way, seeing heroes like Wonder Woman suit up in fantasy gear is incredibly cool. In one of the variant covers for issue one, Wonder Woman’s armor is colored differently and has more detail. So, the official look of Wonder Woman’s fantasy armor will be revealed when the issue comes out. Dark Knights of Steel #2 will be available on December 7 in comic book stores and on digital platforms.
