Warning: major spoilers ahead for Crime Syndicate #3!

Evil Wonder Woman's last major lesson came from Steve Trevor. Crime Syndicate #3 reveals the final lesson that Superwoman receives comes from Steve Trevor. Though Superwoman is very similar to Wonder Woman in many ways, their lives take significantly different trajectories after this interaction.

The Crime Syndicate is a group of evil heroes, saving the day only if it benefits them. This super team mirrors the Justice League, with evil counterparts of the major members. Superwoman, also known as Donna Troy, has an origin that is very similar to Diana's. However, they are not the same since there was an actual Diana in her world, who her mother refers to as being soft. Nonetheless, both are taught important lessons that influence the way they live their lives and use their powers.

Created by Andy Schmidt, Bryan Hitch, and Kieran McKeown, Crime Syndicate #3 continues the titular team's battle against Starro. However, it also features the origin of Superwoman. This origin mirrors Diana's in the reality that fans are used to reading about, however it has some twists. Superwoman lives among Amazons in an all-female world known as Demon's Island, and her life changes when Steve Trevor enters it. However, unlike Diana, Donna's life doesn't change for the better. Steve Trevor's entry into her life finalizes her descent into evil.

Wonder Woman and Superwoman have many parallels. They are both the daughters of Queen Hippolyta. Both fall for their world's Steve Trevor and have their lives turned around by a major decision. In Superwoman's case, however, this decision is rather dark. Instead of simply asking for help after gaining Superwoman's trust, Steve physically restrains her and tries to use her as a hostage to demand assistance from the Amazons. What Steve doesn't know is that his hostage isn't as helpless as he may think, and he just taught this iteration of Wonder Woman the last thing she needed to know to fully turn evil. Love and attachment are weaknesses. As Donna sees it, giving her trust and caring for Steve Trevor is what allowed him to use her without her knowing ahead of time what his motives were. Due to this, she knows that she won't be used by anyone ever again, because she won't show weakness like this ever again.

Through this exchange, Donna realizes that people can be hurt not just by standard weapons, but by words, emotions, and trickery. As a result, she opens her eyes and hardens herself. Superwoman turns the tables on Steve, killing him. This is not the way that he thought things would play out, but he faces the consequences for underestimating her and thinking that he could use her as a pawn. Donna's version of Steve is similar to Diana's, but his desperation causes him to make decisions that alienate her. Instead of gaining an ally, he gains an enemy and forges an evil force to be reckoned with. Though he wasn't planning to, Steve Trevor gave Earth-3's evil Wonder Woman the last lesson she needed to become who she is.
