DC's Wonder Woman has been at the heart of comic book fandom for 80 years and is one of the most popular superheroes of all time. Like any superhero, she has a host of heroes and villains associated with her. In some cases, the villains have proven to be fan favorites while the heroes might be objectionable to readers depending on the circumstances.
Wonder Woman doesn't have the impressive Rogues Gallery of Batman, but many of her villains have become popular with fans. Meanwhile, many of the heroes associated with her - some of whom are otherwise very much fan favorites - take a bit of a heel turn in the minds of fans when it comes to squaring off against Wonder Woman.
Loved Villain: Giganta
Giganta has been a fan favorite among comic readers for many years. The towering villain routinely squares off against Wonder Woman, going all the way back to nearly the beginning in Wonder Woman #9, in 1944.
She's one of the few supervillains on Diana's level when it comes to sheer strength, and her size - up to several hundred feet in some versions of the character - makes her a fun and imposing villain. She has made numerous appearances in animation and is a villain fans would love to see in Wonder Woman 3.
Hated Hero: Artemis
Artemis is a fellow Amazon and hero in her own right, but she's often clashed with Diana. Fans likely didn't root for her all that much back in the '90s, when Artemis took over the role of Wonder Woman for a time.
She actually won the title by defeating Diana in combat, which certainly didn't ingratiate her to fans. Artemis, who hails from the Egyptian tribe of Bana-Mighdall, proved to be a less inspiring and generally more violent version of Wonder Woman. Her tenure ended up being pretty brief.
Loved Villain: Doctor Psycho
Doctor Psycho is one of many villains who originated in the early days of Wonder Woman and remain active. He remains compelling to fans for his maniacal ego and often insanely complicated schemes to defeat Wonder Woman, which included creating a fake superhero version of Wonder Woman's chief love interest Steve Trevor.
His origin has changed somewhat since his debut in 1943, but he continues to be a wild card in terms of his role in Wonder Woman's life. He has also only grown more powerful over the years, acquiring telepathy and telekinesis, which only makes him that much more threatening. He's also one of the fun characters on the Harley Quinn series.
Hated Hero: Batgirl
A very popular hero who Wonder Woman fans may have held a grudge against - at least for a time - is Batgirl. That largely comes about as a result of one of the strangest Batman romances of all time. In Brave and the Bold #78, both Wonder Woman and Batgirl fall for Batman and get into a fight over him.
Wonder Woman fans most likely didn't appreciate Barbara Gordon's efforts in the issue, even if it was completely out of character for both women. The odd scenario was reflective of the anything goes continuity of the late Silver Age in DC Comics though.
Loved Villain: Ares
Ares is the God of War and one of Wonder Woman's most significant enemies. He changed a lot in the early years of the comics, with shifting appearances and motivations, but fans really took to him when George Perez rebooted Wonder Woman post-Crisis On Infinite Earths in the late '80s.
The character became much more menacing with a set of blue armor and imposing mask. He also became more diametrically opposed to Diana, the Amazons, and their entire way of life, making him a villain fans love to hate.
Hated Hero: Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn is extremely popular with comic book and movie fans but she probably doesn't have the biggest well of support with Wonder Woman supporters. For one, she encroaches on their territory.
Harley is an avowed Wonder Woman fan and has a major crush on her, taking things to the point of suggesting they team up as the Wonder Twins in Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #4. It's all a little much, even for Wonder Woman, who is probably used to a lot of attention.
Loved Villain: Circe
Circe is one of the most powerful magicians in DC Comics and one of the biggest threats to not only Wonder Woman but to existence. Immortal and wildly powerful, Circe won over fans with how serious a threat she was in the War Of The Gods storyline.
Circe pitted all the major pantheons of gods against each other in a bid to topple the Amazons. In the course of the story, she reverts Diana back to the clay from which she was formed. Though the story has since been upended in continuity, it remains popular.
Hated Hero: Huntress
Huntress is one of the most important members of the Bat-Family and a popular character, but Superman and Wonder Woman fans alike may have had it in for Huntress after she insults Superman in Injustice: Year 3 #21. Things go way too far as they tended to do in this dark timeline and Wonder Woman kills the Huntress with the Lasso of Truth.
It's one of the most brutal moments in the series, and even though Wonder Woman is as out of character here as Superman. It's the kind of thing where fans disliked her for helping to push Wonder Woman into doing something terrible.
Loved Villain: Cheetah
Cheetah is a major Wonder Woman villain and a fan favorite through her many appearances over the years. Though she's essentially always opposed to Wonder Woman, Barbara Minerva isn't without her noble qualities.
Cheetah has had a number of wholesome moments in the comics over the years, through various iterations of the character, proving she has heroic qualities as much as villainous ones. She's also just a lot of fun, which many Wonder Woman villains tend to be.
Hated Hero: Herakles
Wonder Woman descends from the tradition of Greek mythology, in which Herakles - also known as Hercules - is one of the foremost heroes. He's a hero in DC Comics as well but fans tend to dislike him as he's often opposed to Diana.
That started long before she was born as later updates to his comic backstory after Crisis On Infinite Earths made him a major antagonist of the Amazons and Queen Hippolyta in particular. His strength and charisma make him compelling, even if he's often on the business end of Diana's fists.
