There may be no superhero more devoted to loving her enemies and her family alike, but in the pages of DC's Wonder Woman, Diana seems to have lost track of both. Her plan to prevent her oldest foe Cheetah from gaining the God Killer Sword failed spectacularly. And as a result the goddess of love, Aphrodite, was killed for it.
Cheetah is just one of the latest DC supervillains to be empowered and upgraded by Lex Luthor as part of his Year of the Villain plotting, preparing the world for one massive war for the future of the Multiverse. But on the smaller scale, Wonder Woman now finds herself in a world without love. Needless to say, that takes a toll on both her awareness of Cheetah a.k.a. Barbara Ann Minerva and the suffering the villain is bringing her to family on Themyscira. Here's hoping this official preview is merely setting Diana up for a major victory in the nick of time!
The preview comes courtesy of AIPT, who also spoke with writer Steve Orlando about taking over the series from G. Willow Wilson. While Orlando and Wilson collaborated during her run, Orlando confirms that Issue #82 is the start of its own story, building off of what came before. And once again, Cheetah is at the very heart:
I think that Cheetah has done a lot of bad things and Wonder Woman may hate the things that Cheetah does but I don’t know if she’s truly capable of hating someone. It’s always that she hates the action. And that is why at the same time she will never truly give up on Barbara Ann for example. Even if she does truly loathe a lot of the things she’s done. That love for her that started in the Rucka arc with Liam Sharp is always going to be there. That’s Diana in a nutshell.
