The first trailer for Wonder Woman: Bloodlines has been released. DC has been unleashing animated features steadily this year. So far there's been Reign of the Supermen, Justice League vs. the Fatal Five, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most recently Batman: Hush. Wonder Woman will join them later this year.

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Wonder Woman is one of the most popular characters out there right now. Although many were divided on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, almost everyone agreed that Gal Gadot's portrayal of the Amazon princess was outstanding. She would headline a Wonder Woman solo film the following year, which is still the most acclaimed of the DCEU movies. The sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, is hotly anticipated. Even before all this, Wonder Woman was the star of her own animated feature. Like the 2017 movie, this animated movie told the origin of the character, and had her battle Ares. Since then, Wonder Woman has appeared in a number of animated features, but never received her own movie again. That changes very soon with the release of Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.

DC has revealed the trailer for Wonder Woman: Bloodlines (via IGN), and it packs quite a bit in. Appearing to take place before the events of Justice League: War, the story begins with Diana saving a man named Steve Trevor and taking him to Themyscira. Of course, fans know what happens next: Diana goes with him outside her home, where she acquires the name Wonder Woman. The story does go in a different direction, however. The core story follows Diana trying to help a girl who's been recruited by an organization of villains. Check out the trailer below.

A few things to note here is that the movie seems to be part origin story. It's not known if the opening Steve Trevor stuff is the first five minutes, a flashback, or integral to the entire movie. This is also not a sequel to the 2009 movie. Instead, it seems to be set in The New 52 animated continuity. The story looks to go to some interesting places. Not only does it take place in the city, but there appears to be a battle at Themyscira as well. Finally, the film features a few notable villains. Dr. Poison, who appeared in the live-action movie, is making her animated feature debut. Classic Wonder Woman villains Cheetah and Giganta will also appear.

Although the movie does feature an original storyline, many fans are disappointed that it's still going to retell the origin in some capacity. This was already explored twice in the last 10 years, so it's understandable that fans are questioning the need to do it again. Still, the origin could just be the opening act of the film. There looks to be plenty of compelling conflict from a cast of antagonists. Will Wonder Woman: Bloodlines exceed the popularity of the 2009 film? Fans will have to wait and see when the movie hits home video, presumably later this year.
