Superhero films have previously been period pieces, female-led, and female-directed, but all of those qualities are incredibly uncommon to the genre. Because of this, Wonder Woman looks to be a unique experience in at least a few areas. Framed as a flashback within the DC Extended Universe, the film is set to focus on the superheroine's adventures defending humanity during the first World War. Despite a couple of exciting trailers featuring the broad beats of Wonder Woman's journey, the film's plot is still a mystery. Little is known about the real villain of the story, or what Diana hopes to achieve by getting involved in the conflicts of humankind.
Just one of the film's persistent mysteries is the role of actor Saïd Taghmaoui in the film. We've seen images of his character, a soldier who wears a fez, and an ally to Diana and Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine), but his name hasn't been revealed. A year ago, he surprisingly described his character as a superhero, though there haven't been any further hints about the nature of his role since.
Taghmaoui recently took to Twitter to share a couple of behind-the-scenes photos of him with star Gal Gadot (Furious 7) and director Patty Jenkins (Monster). It's clear from the heart emojis that there is no love lost between Taghmaoui and the ladies spearheading the project.
It's unclear whether these photos were taken way back when principle photography wrapped in May, or if these are from a more recent reunion for the rumored reshoots taking place this month. Those looking for more hints about the plot of the film will likely find nothing to pick over here, though seeing Taghmaoui on such friendly terms with Gadot and Jenkins suggests that his role is at least significant. In the very least, it's nice to see collaborators in such good spirits over a project that so many people are excited about. Here's hoping that fans and filmgoers will join in the love of Gadot, Jenkins, and Taghmaoui when Wonder Woman hits next June.
