Warning: contains a preview for Wonder Woman 2021 Annual #1!

Although Wonder Woman isn't as well known for her shields as Captain America, her newest one is an eye-catcher. Wonder Woman 2021 Annual #1 has received a new preview ahead of this week's release and it features the Goddess of Truth's latest equipment. She may not always carry a shield, but this one could merit more use than those she's utilized before.

Wonder Woman has multiple styles of fighting foes. She can fight with a sword and shield, as well as a bow or spear. Predominantly though, Wonder Woman fights with her fists and lasso, using her bracelets as her main defensive tactic. The pair are like a set of mini shields that take up less strength while leaving the heroine with more room. Nonetheless, since her 1980s era, she will occasionally fight with a shield and sword, as seen in the DCEU.

Wonder Woman 2021 Annual #1 has the creative team of Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Andy MacDonald, Nick Filardi, and Pat Brosseau. Wonder Woman's return from Valhalla after turning down a cosmic position surpassing godly status has resulted in some distance from her loved ones. She's been trying to get settled back into her life, but trouble is brewing in the form of threats to Themyscira, schemes by Doctor Psycho, and an army of evil Wonder Women. Check out the preview for Wonder Woman's next fight - and see her newest shield - here:

The preview opens up with Etta Candy being met by a man who calls himself Altuum, though as of yet it is too early to know his goals or motives. Etta is waiting for Wonder Woman, who finds herself thrown into a hostage situation during a bank robbery. This threat is a rather standard one for the heroine without much challenge, but she fights with style. Instead of just using her lasso, she pairs it off with a stunning new shield, foregoing the usual sword combo. Wonder Woman's shield is predominantly silver. It still has her traditional disc shape - the same as Captain America's - and hers even shares a striking similarity with his.

Although this shield has gold and blue accents in a different pattern than Captain America’s, Wonder Woman’s also has a star in the center. However, hers is of a different color than Marvel’s lead Avenger. While hers may not be as immediately recognizable as Marvel's super soldier, this shield is one of Wonder Woman's most beautiful. It has more color than recent shields have, setting it apart from the ones she has wielded in the past. Her classic red and blue shield from the 1980s hasn't appeared in a while, but her new model is still very much more like Cap's shield. Wonder Woman may not have the same shield wielding (and throwing) abilities as Captain America, but even he might consider her a bit of a kindred spirit with this latest design. Indeed, the iconic meaning of the shield - that the hero is dedicated to protecting rather than harming others, even though they're capable of doing both - is as true for Diana as for Steve Rogers.

Fans can see Wonder Woman's new shield in action, and compare how she wields it to Captain America, when iWonder Woman 2021 Annual #1 releases November 30.
