Connie Nielsen voices her excitement about finally being able to work with DC legend Lynda Carter in Wonder Woman 3. Director Patty Jenkins brought a massive wave of success to the DCEU when the first Wonder Woman released in 2017. That movie was the franchise's first financial and critical success, boasting the highest Rotten Tomatoes score to this day and bringing in over $800 million worldwide. The quickly greenlit sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, released in 2020 under unusual circumstances during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and had a hybrid HBO Max and theatrical release. While WW84 did not make much money and was not as well-received, Warner Bros. signed Jenkins on for Wonder Woman 3.

During the final fight against Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah (Kristen Wiig), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) dons Golden Eagle armor that was worn by Asteria. Asteria is the legendary Amazon warrior that protected the women of Themyscira and disappeared into the world of man. At the end of WW84, it is revealed that Asteria is alive, and Carter plays her. Besides that quick cameo, not much is known about Carter's role in Wonder Woman 3. Asteria and Wonder Woman will likely cross paths, and them teaming up could lead to important events for the Amazonian warriors.

Now, Hippolyta actress Nielsen has talked about her excitement in working with Carter on Wonder Woman 3. In an interview with Pop Culture, she reveals that she never actually got to see Carter while filming Wonder Woman 1984, as Carter's scene was on a different set. She met her for the first time at the red carpet premiere, but now, they will be on screen together. Check out Nielsen's full quote below:

I have not met Lynda yet. I mean, I've met her briefly at the premiere, but I've not worked with her yet — so I don't know what that's like. We were on different sets, so I don't know, but I look forward to having that experience for sure.

Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta in Wonder Woman movie

Given her status as the first Wonder Woman actress, it's understandable Nielsen is excited to finally work with Carter. Her reveal at the end of the previous film was exhilarating for DC fans, as it potentially set up Wonder Woman's future arc. It's unknown at this point how big of a role Carter's Asteria will have in the sequel. It could just be another cameo, but Wonder Woman 1984  did set the stage for Asteria to have a more substantial role in Wonder Woman 3. Either way, it should be fun to see the original Wonder Woman actress interact with the current generation of characters.

There aren't many plot details known about Wonder Woman 3, but given Asteria's history with the Amazons, she could be featured in a flashback with Nielsen's Hippolyta. Since Wonder Woman 4 has yet to be confirmed, it makes sense that Jenkins would want to bring in Carter for a bigger role in Wonder Woman 3. Gadot will of course still be the main star in Wonder Woman 3, but it is no doubt exciting for the cast to share the screen with the woman who was synonymous with Diana Prince for decades. Once Wonder Woman 3 starts filming, more information for the DC movie could be revealed and fans might get a better idea of how Asteria ties into the sequel.
