The first Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is released online. Gal Gadot debuted as Warner Bros. and DC Films' Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman in 2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but she received her first solo outing in 2017's Wonder Woman. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film was a turning point in the early days of Warner Bros' Worlds of DC franchise. It marked the first real critical success of the unofficially titled DC Extended Universe. As such, a Wonder Woman sequel was officially announced a month after the first film's theatrical debut, with it originally set to release in November 2019. However, Wonder Woman 2 was delayed until June 2020.

Now titled Wonder Woman 1984, Jenkins has been teasing the sequel for some time, offering first looks at new characters like Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord and Kristen Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah. Plus, fans can look forward to the return of not only Gadot as Wonder Woman, but Chris Pine as Steve Trevor - or, at least, someone who looks like Steve Trevor. Still, with the Wonder Woman 1984 release date set for June, updates and teases have been few and far between. Jenkins did unveil the Wonder Woman 1984 poster this summer, but now the first footage has arrived in the film's official teaser trailer.

Warner Bros. unveiled the first Wonder Woman 1984 movie trailer during the film's panel at CCXP this weekend. Plus, Jenkins helped introduce four new character posters, including Wonder Woman herself, Maxwell Lord, Barbara Minerva and Steve Trevor. Watch the trailer and check out the posters below.

Gal Gadot as Diana Prince in Wonder Woman 1984 CCXP poster
Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984 CCXP poster
Kristen Wiig as Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984 CCXP poster
Chris Pine as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman 1984 CCXP poster

While the trailer doesn't reveal how Steve Trevor returns, it does offer fans a first look at Wonder Woman's Golden Eagle Armor that was teased in the very first Wonder Woman 1984 poster. Further, the trailer officially introduces both Maxwell Lord and Barbara Minerva. As seen at the start of the video, Barbara is Diana's friend, with the two of them sharing a drink and discussing their past loves. The trailer doesn't showcase Cheetah, however, which may indicate Wiig's villain will be saved for a future trailer, possibly because the filmmakers need to complete some VFX work on the costume. Jenkins did mention during the CCXP panel that much of the Cheetah costume is practical effects, but it's elevated by some other visual effects.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Lord is positioned as the main villain of Wonder Woman 1984. Though it's unclear what exactly his plan is, he mentions in voiceover that he will be taking what he wants in return - in return for what isn't specified. Altogether, the Wonder Woman 1984 teaser trailer does effectively tease much of the movie without giving too much away. Instead, it seems to be focused on hyping up fans for Wonder Woman's return to theaters in 2020. With three years between the first film and the sequel, fans are no doubt excited to see the Amazonian warrior back in action. They'll just have to wait a bit longer before Wonder Woman 1984 officially hits theaters in June 2020.
