Wonder Woman 1984 is officially rated PG-13, despite not arriving in theaters for several more months. The latest DCEU movie sees the return of Gal Gadot's Diana/Wonder Woman following 2017's Justice League. While that was the last time audiences saw the Amazonian hero, Wonder Woman 1984 is actually a follow-up to her other 2017 film, the original Wonder Woman. That film left off with Diana reflecting on her adventures in World War I; Wonder Woman 1984 will pick up decades later, with Diana working at the Natural History Museum. While she's living a lonelier life than before thanks to the apparent death of her partner Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), Diana still seems to be protecting humanity from the shadows, as evidenced by Wonder Woman 1984's first trailer.

Despite all the hype surrounding the film (which was once declared the most anticipated movie of 2020), Wonder Woman 1984 has hit a few setbacks. After being pushed back from its original release date of November 2019, the film seemed ready to arrive in June of this year. However, the coronavirus pandemic brought unforeseen circumstances to the entertainment industry and pushed back almost every major film in the coming months. As a result, Wonder Woman 1984 has been moved to August 14, 2020 and will not be released on streaming, despite rumors persisting that it will be.

While still being months away, Wonder Woman 1984 has received its official rating. This was likely timed to be completed for its original June release. Per the Classification & Rating Administration's weekly bulletinWonder Woman 1984 will be rated PG-13 for "sequences of action and violence."

Diana's lasso in Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984's PG-13 rating doesn't come as much of a surprise, since the previous Wonder Woman and most DCEU films received that rating. The most recent DCEU film, Birds of Prey, actually bucked that trend and was rated R. Next year's The Suicide Squad could end up doing the same, though director James Gunn won't say for sure. However, Wonder Woman 1984 was likely always intended to be PG-13 both to get the biggest audience it can and to follow in the footsteps of the first film.

Wonder Woman 1984's delay is arguably one of the biggest blows dealt by the coronavirus pandemic, though there's some comfort in the fact it was only delayed by two months instead of, say, an entire year. While some have expressed their doubt that the film will actually make the August date (as in the case of star Connie Nielson), Warner Bros. hasn't indicated they intend to delay it once again. Of course, that could change, but for right now, fans can expect to see Diana's next adventure by the end of summer in standard, PG-13-rated fashion.
