Diana Prince wears a mask in this new Wonder Woman 1984 set photo. The next installment in the DCEU has endured quite the journey to the big screen, as it was initially scheduled for release in November 2019. However, it was later delayed to June 2020, which ended up being a poor move. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced Warner Bros. to shuffle Wonder Woman 1984's release date multiple times, with its current date being October 2 of this year. Only time will tell if that actually holds, however.

Nevertheless, anticipation for Wonder Woman 1984 continues to build. Most plot details are still being kept under wraps, but a few notable parts have emerged. For one thing, Wonder Woman 1984 will pick up decades after the previous film, with Gal Gadot's Diana now living a more solitary life in Washington D.C. Diana's life will be shaken up by the arrival of shady businessman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), as well as her new friend Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig), who fans know will become the comics villain Cheetah. Plus, things will be further complicated by the reemergence of Diana's lost love, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

As fans impatiently await the release of Wonder Woman 1984, various photos and promotional materials have been released to help tide them over. The latest comes from Gadot herself, and also carries an important and timely message. In a photo from the set of Wonder Woman 1984, Gadot's Wonder Woman dons a mask. Gadot merely captioned it with "#wearamask," a frequent refrain for many during this ongoing pandemic.

The concept of wearing a mask amid the pandemic has become a surprisingly controversial topic, but perhaps the sight of a beloved superhero wearing one will help sway some into putting on a face covering of their own. Seeing as the pandemic is the biggest culprit for Wonder Woman 1984's delay, it's no surprise that Gadot would be willing to get behind this message and promote safe practices. In fact, several other pieces of pop culture have been used in recent weeks to show the importance of face masks, from Christopher Nolan's filmography to Star Trek's unlucky red shirts.

Warner Bros. is determined to give Wonder Woman 1984 the theatrical release it deserves, which means fans shouldn't expect it to end up on streaming any time soon. There's still a great deal of concern over whether movie theaters can reopen safely in the coming weeks, but the hope is that they will be ready to go by October. If not, then fans might have to wait until 2021 to see Diana leap back into action. Hopefully enough people will heed her suggestion and remain covered up for the time being.
