Cheetah, one of Wonder Woman's top archenemies, is making an appearance in Wonder Woman 1984, and it has officially been revealed how the villain will first meet Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). Cheetah is one of the most well-known villains in Wonder Woman comics, and in Wonder Woman 1984, actress Kristen Wiig will get to usher in the character's live-action film debut.

Cheetah wasn't always a feline-shaped villain, though. In DC Comics, she begins life as Barbara Minerva, a mild-mannered British archaeologist who becomes best friends with Diana Prince. Although Barbara's transformation to Cheetah has changed throughout the comics, her most recent iteration is caused by a plant god called Urzkartaga, who grants Barbara superhuman powers and the appearance of a human-like cheetah. As Cheetah, Barbara becomes an enemy of Wonder Woman and the two often battle it out in comic book panels. However, in most cases, Wonder Woman remembers the woman beneath the feline exterior and often attempts to bring Barbara back out.

Today, EW revealed how Diana and Barbara will meet in Wonder Woman 1984. Barbara will be one of Diana's co-workers at the Natural History Museum. Instead of Barbara being an archaeologist, though, she is a gemologist, but she is still described as "shy" and "socially awkward." Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) will use his charms on the two women, but it seems that Diana is immune, where Barbara is not. Perhaps it is his manipulation that eventually leads Barbara to become Cheetah.

Wonder Woman 84 Cheetah Poster Costume

Photos have already revealed what Barbara will look like in Wonder Woman 1984, perhaps in her first Cheetah costume. Still, likely, a more CGI-rendered version of the character of Barbara in her cat form will eventually emerge. It makes sense that Warner Bros. will keep that look secret for as long as possible, and it's also likely the digital work on the character isn't complete yet. There is undoubtedly pressure to get the look right, particularly after seeing the mockery over the digital work done for Cats.

Regardless of Cheetah's final look, though, it's exciting to learn that her origin story still seems as if it's sticking close to that of the comic books. Although Wiig is known mostly for her comedic roles, she seems dedicated to getting Barbara and Cheetah right, especially in understanding the differences between the two, although they are the same woman. Given director Patty Jenkins' initial vision in the first movie, it's likely that fans will be satisfied with Cheetah's depiction in Wonder Woman 1984.
