The first Wonder Woman 1984 trailer has been released by Warner Bros. and DC Films, and it features a remix of a popular 80s song. Directed by Patty Jenkins once againWonder Woman 1984 is the highly-anticipated sequel to 2017's box office smash hit, Wonder Woman. With Jenkins back behind the camera, the sequel will see Gal Gadot reprise her role as the Amazonian known as Diana Prince.

As evident by the title, Wonder Woman 1984 will pick-up with Diana 30 years after her last solo adventure. The 1984 setting of the film is set to provide the movie with ample opportunities to ride the nostalgic wave of that decade. Early marketing materials for the sequel put the bright, neon colors of the time front and center, as Wonder Woman's costume has become colorful. Even the newly released character posters highlighting Chris Pine's Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord were filled with the 80s aesthetic.

Now that the first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 is out, those who watch the dazzling images may recognize a familiar song playing in the background. That is because the trailer is set to an instrumental remix of "Blue Monday" by New Order. The synth-pop song immediately helps establish the 1984 setting for the film. "Blue Monday" was released in 1983 as part of their Power, Corruption & Lies album, so it could be accurately featured in the movie itself come next summer.

With "Blue Monday" helping set the mood, the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is already making waves with fans. The release came at the end of the DC movie's panel at CCXP in Brazil. The excitement for the release is understandable considering the success of the first film, but also because the movie was originally set to arrive much earlier. WB initially set a December release for Wonder Woman 1984, but they moved it up to November once Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker moved to the holiday season too. After going through production to hit this date though, WB moved the film to June 2020 so that it can arrive in the same window that helped make Wonder Woman as big of a hit as it became.

The wait for Wonder Woman 1984 may still be months away now, but there are plenty of reasons to be excited in the meantime for DC fans. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harly Quinn) is scheduled to hit theaters in February and is ramping up its marketing campaign. With a new trailer expected soon, more DC reveals are just around the corner. Plus, with The Suicide Squad in production and The Batman starting early next year, Wonder Woman 1984 will be here before we know it.
