Wonder Woman 1984's latest trailer teases Diana Prince and Steve Trevor's inevitable separation again. Patty Jenkins's hit Wonder Woman film from 2017 introduced Chris Pine's World War I pilot and love interest of Gal Gadot's Diana Prince. But their romance ends just as it is about to begin when Steve sacrifices his life to help the Amazonian Princess' mission to stop Ares and the ongoing war.

This is the reason why Steve's appearance several decades after his apparent death in Wonder Woman is confusing. Instead of keeping the actor's involvement in Wonder Woman 1984 a secret, Jenkins and Warner Bros. opted to confirm his appearance in the movie and have the conversation focus on how he's able to return. The answer to this mystery is being saved for the film itself, but a new trailer hints Diana and Steve's reunion will again end in another heartbreaking farewell.

Released on YouTube by WBPicturesHK is a new international spot for Wonder Woman 1984. Clocking in at just 30 seconds, the clip features a few new snippets, including a shot of what appears to be the Kremlin in Russia and a fresh look at Diana wearing her Golden Eagle Armor. The most interesting part in the trailer, however, is the shot of Steve and Diana sharing an intimate moment wherein he talks about the world deserving Wonder Woman and that only she can save it. Watch the clip below:

Since there's no additional context provided to the aforementioned scene and its corresponding dialog, it's difficult to be sure what exactly is happening at this moment in Wonder Woman 1984. But, it's reminiscent of Diana and Steve's goodbye in the original film wherein he informs her of his plans and reminds her that the world needs someone like her who can save it from time to time. Considering the fact that Steve is nowhere to be found in the modern DCEU era, and his death remains to be a sore spot for Diana, as seen in her intense conversation with Bruce Wayne in Justice League, it's safe to say that Wonder Woman 1984 will see the lovers part again. It may be even more tragic than the first time since Wonder Woman will likely willingly let him go knowing that his resurrection goes against the natural order of things.

The wait to learn about the manner of Steve's return and how his existence in the '80s would affect Diana won't be too long now. After several delays due to a couple of reasons, Warner Bros is finally committing to its Christmas release schedule for Wonder Woman 1984. But instead of simply rolling it out on theaters as initially planned, the project will also simultaneously drop on HBO Max, giving the public an option as to how they want to enjoy the much-delayed film. Admittedly, not everyone was a fan of this decision, but at this point, it's the best compromise considering the coronavirius situation.
