The 2017 film Wonder Woman proved to be an unexpected success. Even more so considering that previous female-led superhero/villain movies weren't all that successful. But Wonder Woman proved once and for all that it can be done and opened up a whole new era of female superheroes kicking butts on the big screen.

The second film Wonder Woman 1984 is then set to premiere on the 2nd of October 2020, and it's already managed to become one of the most anticipated films of this year, if not the most anticipated one. Since so many fans are looking forward to seeing their favorite Amazon princess again, they also came up with a lot of theories. Some of those are plausible while others not so much.

Perfect Theory: Barbara Ann Minerva Will Get Cursed

Cheetah Wonder Woman Villain

Some DCEU movies are more cemented in reality than others but that's not the case for Wonder Woman. After all, Diana is an Amazon princess with magical powers and tools at her disposal. So it would make sense if the film also featured Barbara Ann Minerva transforming to Cheetah because of a curse that befell her.

In one of her comic book origins, Barbara Ann became cursed during one of her archeological digs. The curse could warp her mind and turn her against her former friend Diana as well.

Hilariously Bad Theory: Steve Trevor Never Died In The First Place

Chris Pine as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman

Steve Trevor's death was a painful and highly emotional moment for Diana (and the fans) since it was obvious that she and he were in love. But Steve will be back in the sequel and some fans came up with the theory that he never died in the first place.

That's unlikely, though, since it would not only undermine his sacrifice in the first film but also would make Steve look bad;  if he was alive, why wouldn't he let Diana know and made her think for almost a century that he was dead?

Perfect Theory: Steve Comes Back Thanks To Magic

Wonder Woman 1984 Diana hugs Steve

One of the more credible theories focusing on the cause of Steve Trevor's return states that Steve will be brought back by magic. It would make sense when combined with other theories, such as the one about Barbara Ann Minerva's transformation into Cheetah.

Magic can do both amazing and horrible things, and bringing back Steve to the world would be one of the good ones.

Hilariously Bad Theory: Flashpoint Will Change Diana's History

Ezra Miller The Flash in Justice League

Some fans wondered how could Steve be back in the 1980s and presumed dead in the 21st century during the events of Justice League. One possible answer was that Barry Allen, also known as the Flash, could travel back to the past.

He would then inadvertently create a new reality as he did in the Flashpoint comic book storyline. However, considering the lukewarm reception of the 2017 film Justice League, it's safe to assume that the film will focus on Diana and not her future superhero friends.

Perfect Theory: Gods Will Appear

Wonder Woman Ares

Considering Wonder Woman's close tie to the Greek Gods and her true origin, it would make sense if the second film also featured some of the Gods. Ares was the main villain in the first movie, so perhaps the second film could introduce a friendlier Greek God, for a change?

There is a rich circle of Gods to choose from, it could be Artemis, Athena, or even Wonder Woman's father Zeus could make an appearance. Anyone in the mood for an unusual father/daughter family reunion?

Hilariously Bad Theory: Steve Trevor Is A Robot (Or A Clone)

The hilariously silly theories about Steve Trevor's return are rich in number. There are also two similar theories, one which states that Steve Diana meets in her second film, which is actually a robot.

Another, the only slightly more sensible theory says that he isn't a robot, he's a clone. Even if that was the case, which is unlikely, it would bring a lot of new questions, most notably, who built a robot Steve/cloned Steve, and why? And why would they wait so long?

Perfect Theory: The Villains Will Be Connected

Maxwell Lord and Cheetah about to kiss

This isn't such a crazy theory since there are already pictures of the two main villains interacting with each other. But even before the photos came out, it was a logical assumption that Maxwell Lord and Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah would be somehow connected. If there are multiple villains in superhero films, they often have a connection, like Lex Luthor and Doomsday in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), to name just one.

One of the most likely theories about Maxwell Lord's and Cheetah's connection claims that Cheetah will blame Maxwell for her transformation and he will ask Diana to help and protect him.

Hilariously Bad Theory: Doctor Poison Will Return

Doctor Poison from Wonder Woman

Isabel Maru, also known as Doctor Poison, was one of the main villains of the first movie. Unlike her boss, she managed to survive and it's unclear what happened to her afterward.

One theory claimed that Doctor Poison could return in Wonder Woman 1984 but that's highly unlikely. Unless she'd find a way to prolong her life, she'd be very old in 1984, plus, the film already has its main villains.

Perfect Theory: Wonder Woman Will Use Her Invisible jet

This one might seem a bit ridiculous at first but it would make sense if Diana used some new toys and tools in her upcoming second solo film. After all, she was already using her most famous tools, the Lasso of Truth and the bullets, deflecting bracelets in the first movie, so why not give her something new to play with and use for fighting in the second movie?

Diana's invisible jet has an important place in the comics and it would be a perfect way to travel for someone who wants to stay off the radar, as Diana clearly does.

Hilariously Bad Theory: Superman And Batman Will Show Up

Batman V Superman Wonder Woman Diana Prince Bruce Wayne

Just like with the Flash, it's unlikely that the Wonder Woman sequel will feature any other iconic Justice League members, and that includes Batman and Superman. Why is it unlikely? For one, the film is supposed to be a separate adventure.

Second, both Batman and Superman are just kids in 1984. Batman is about 11 and Superman, or, really, Clark, is only 4-years-old and hasn't even started discovering his powers yet. Of course, time travel could be involved, since 1984 is also the iconic year of the first Terminator film, but it's doubtful whether that will happen.
