New image for Wonder Woman 1984 teases that Diana Prince can fly in the sequel. Fans were first introduced to the Amazonian Goddess in 2016 via Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, leading to two more reprisals for Gal Gadot in 2017's Wonder Woman and Justice League. At this point, the title character has shown off her impressive skills sets, but the Patty Jenkins sequel appears to be expanding her capabilities with a new superhero trait.

The much-anticipated sequel will be set in the 1980s, with the sequel finding Diana at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Wonder Woman 1984 will pit her against new villains such as Kristen Wiig's Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah and Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord. Meanwhile, she's also reunited with her lover from the original movie, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor. Specific plot details other than aforementioned remain tightly under wraps, but as marketing continues despite another slight delay in its theatrical release from June to August 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has brought in fresh promo images for the movie - one of which hints that Diana can fly in the sequel.

Over the years, varying depiction of Wonder Woman also meant different takes on whether or not she's able to fly in the typical superhero fashion. In the classic TV series starring Lynda Carter, she's unable to, instead she relied on her invisible jet, which is something that many fans are also looking forward to see on the big screen as it's something tightly associated with her. It was the same case in the Super Friends cartoons. Meanwhile, animated series like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited gave Diana the ability to fly on her own.

In the Golden Age of comics, Diana was unable to fly. That started to change in the Silver Age when she was give the skill to glide on air currents. When DC Comics rebooted their entire line in 2011, Wonder Woman's origins were also changed as she became the Demi-goddess daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus. She was granted the capability to fully take flight by Hermes. Based on the second photo, it's possible that Gadot's version in Wonder Woman 1984 is simply gliding on air, like her Silver Age print counterpart. Fans know that while she can't fly on a traditional superhero sense in Wonder Woman, she's able to leap long distances with great accuracy. Assuming, however, that Jenkins decide to give her the full ability to fly, it's curious why fans haven't seen her use that skill despite films like Batman V Superman and Justice League taking place after the upcoming sequel.
