Warning! Spoilers ahead for Wonder Woman 1984

Diana Prince is ready for action no matter what she’s doing in Wonder Woman 1984and it’s enough to ponder whether she is always wearing her armor beneath her clothing. Donning a superhero costume under clothing is a common trope of Superman, whose alter ego Clark Kent is always primed to rip open his shirt to reveal the iconic “S” symbol hiding from plain sight. If anything, Wonder Woman 1984 may have also adapted this characteristic to some extent, though it seems to have begun in the original film.

In Wonder Woman, Diana (Gal Gadot) didn’t go anywhere without her sword and armor. When she arrived at a party wearing an evening gown in a bid to find the villain Ares, her weapon was tucked into the back of her dress. No one was the wiser considering that the sword looked more like a fashion accessory than a weapon. When things took a turn, Diana was quick to shed her dress and don her armor. While fans didn’t see her change, it’s safe to assume that Wonder Woman was indeed wearing her suit beneath her dress. Where else would she have been hiding it? After all, Diana didn’t waltz into the party with a bag that held her armor or anything.

Wonder Woman 1984 adds another layer to the attachment Diana has with her armor. When Diana and Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) commandeer a plane and fly overseas to put a stop to Maxwell Lord’s (Pedro Pascal) villainous plans, she is wearing her civilian clothing. Such is no longer the case when they land and enter into battle with Lord and his men. On the surface, this doesn’t seem like a big deal because, of course, Diana would have her armor with her knowing that she was trying to stop Lord.

Diana could be wearing her armor beneath her clothes.

However, it’s worth noting that Diana and Steve didn’t really pack anything when they stole the plane and left Washington, DC behind. Therefore, the only way Wonder Woman would have had her armor is if she’d already been wearing it beneath her clothes. Of course, Diana isn’t always wearing her armor beneath her clothing. When she shoves the man who is harassing Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) in the park, Diana appears fully decked out in her ‘80s clothing. The reason for this might be due to the fact that she knew Barbara and Wonder Woman didn't want to reveal her secret identity to her.

There’s no doubt that Diana changing out of her civilian suit for her Themysciran armor in public would have raised some eyebrows. While Wonder Woman 1984 doesn’t make a big deal out of Diana changing into her Wonder Woman armor the way Clark Kent does when he becomes Superman, the consensus is that she wears her costume beneath her clothes more often than she doesn’t. Diana is nothing if not battle-ready.
