Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984 are two of the most anticipated movie releases of 2020 and, judging by their respective trailers, it looks like Wonder Woman 2 might already be a better movie. It's too early to tell for sure and it doesn't mean Black Widow won't be a great addition to the MCU, but Wonder Woman 1984 sure seems to have brought the bigger guns.

Both trailers did a great job of setting the tone for what's to come. The Black Widow trailer gave fans a first look at Natasha Romanoff's new super suit, introduced David Habour's goofy Red Guardian, and hinted at a dysfunctional family reunion. The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer, on the other hand, transported fans to the colorful 1980s to the tune of New Order's "Blue Monday", revealing Steve Trevor is alive, Kristen Wiig's Cheetah has love on her mind and Diana has fully embraced the era's gold-plated trend with her badass eagle armor.

Despite excitement for both movies from audiences, it's hard to avoid how the Marvel movie trailer proves that it might be too late for a Black Widow solo movie. After all, is there any point exploring Natasha's backstory, however enticing it may be, after she plummeted to her death in Avengers: Endgame? Sure, Black Widow is set before the events that transpired in Avengers: Endgame, but that only drives home the point that Natasha can no longer impact the MCU even further. Wonder Woman 1984 also takes place in the past, but at least Diana can and will impact DC's present timeline (since she is, you know, alive).

Wonder Woman 1984 Looks Better Than Black Widow

The footage in Wonder Woman 1984 is also the far superior of the two. The Black Widow trailer spends a lot of time on scenes from previous Marvel movies, whereas Wonder Woman 1984 offers fans more brand new content to sink their teeth into. There's a lot of style, character, intrigue, and some great action. Also, 80s nostalgia goes a long way in Hollywood, as proven by the likes of Stranger Things and American Horror Story, and the look and feel of Wonder Woman 1984 definitely banks on that nostalgia - with superb results.

Of course, there's certainly enough room for both movies in the superhero genre, which is only just beginning to redress its lack of female-led stories. Black Widow might still surprise fans by changing the MCU future timeline (yet again), what with Scarlett Johansson mysteriously referring to the super spy's solo movie as a "franchise". As of right now, however, it's the DCEU's Wonder Woman 1984 that looks that most exciting of the two major 2020 comic book movies.
