Warner Bros. is developing a Wonder Twins movie for the DC Extended Universe with Black Adam's writer. Despite a rocky start, the DCEU has found its footing in recent years as it begins to become the shared universe WB hoped for. 2022 is going to be the biggest year yet for the DC movie universe, as The BatmanBlack AdamThe Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are confirmed for theatrical releases. Meanwhile, Batgirl is expected to debut on HBO Max before the end of the year as well.

The decision to put Batgirl on HBO Max came as part of the DCEU's expansion. The WarnerMedia streaming service has multiple movies and TV shows in development, while Peacemaker is wrapping up the first season of a DCEU TV series. Some of the other DC projects confirmed to be in the works for HBO Max include a Green Lantern anthology show and multiple The Batman spinoff shows. There were also plans for a Blue Beetle movie to debut on the streaming service but it will now get a theatrical release instead. Now, it appears a new DCEU movie is in development.

According to a report from THR, Warner Bros. and DC Films are developing a Wonder Twins live-action movie. In the comics, the Wonder Twins are Zan and Jayna, who have the abilities to transform into any form of water and animal respectively. It will be written and directed by Adam Sztykiel, who wrote Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam. Sztykiel also has writing credits for Due DateRampage, and Scoob!, but Wonder Twins will be his directorial debut. The movie is planned to release exclusively on HBO Max at an unspecified time.

Similar to Harley Quinn's path to relevance, the Wonder Twins originated from an animated show, The All-New Super Friends Hour, before joining the DC Comics universe in 1977's Super Friends #7. They have since appeared in a variety of comic storylines, including a 2019 reboot of Zan and Jayna that was quite successful. The superpowered alien twins are best known for their catchphrase, "Wonder Twin power, activate," and previously appeared in live-action thanks to Smallville. The Wonder Twins have also been teased in the Arrowverse thanks to their monkey Gleek.

Although the Wonder Twins might not be as popular as other characters waiting to join the DCEU, the HBO Max movie presents the franchise with another opportunity to introduce young new heroes. This seems to be a demographic the streaming service is targeting by bringing Barbara Gordon to the screen and having an interest in Jaime Reyes. It is also potentially a good sign for WB and DC's faith in Black Adam, as Sztykiel's script must have impressed and helped deliver a strong final product. Perhaps the Wonder Twins movie will even be set up somehow during The Rock's DC movie.
