The Marvel Cinematic Universe is adding yet another hero to its ranks after news broke recently that Wonder Man will be receiving his very own Disney+ series helmed by Shang-Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton. The actor-turned-superhero is a major part of the Marvel Universe and will likely play a pivotal role in the future of the MCU.

While reports regarding this new addition to the MCU are still in their infancy, fans have already begun to speculate regarding potential actors that could take on the role of Simon Williams. Certain Redditors have included themselves in these discussions, adding their personal picks to the ever-growing list of dream castings.

Henry Golding

"Henry Golding maybe?" suggests FictionFantom in a Reddit thread discussing potential Wonder Man fan castings. Golding, a relatively new actor on the Hollywood scene, has recently come into prominence with his roles in Crazy Rich Asians and G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes.

Golding is a perfect actor for Marvel to cast if the studio plans on portraying Simon Williams as a young actor just beginning his career in Hollywood. He possesses the screen presence and youthful charm necessary to play a hero with as big a personality as Williams and is viable to stick around for many years in the never-ending superhero franchise.

Bruce Campbell

TyloRen1122 may think their personal choice is a bit old for the role of Simon Williams, but nothing is impossible with Marvel Studios. They write, "20 years ago, Bruce Campbell would have been perfect." The Ash vs. The Evil Dead star is a frequent collaborator with director Sam Raimi and even received a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Though he has already appeared as a pizza ball vendor on Earth-838, many fans have been longing for Bruce Campbell to join the MCU on Earth-616. Campbell's campy and satirical sensibilities would make for a perfect older version of Simon Williams, whose life as an actor would doubtlessly poke fun at Hollywood, making for a perfect blend of actor and tone.

Antony Starr

Antony Starr as Homelander in The Boys giving a speech

Reddit user Jertimmer believes that "Antony Starr" would be an excellent choice when casting Wonder Man for the MCU. The New Zealand-born actor has appeared in a number of recognizable projects, including Banshee and Wish You Were Here, but is doubtlessly best known for playing Homelander in Amazon Prime's The Boys.

Starr's take on Homelander, a riff on other famous superheroes like Superman, has given him a chance to display his impressive acting chops, portraying a man who is just inches away from snapping at any given moment. Making the jump to a more comedic role with Wonder Man would give Starr the opportunity to flex his acting chops even further, albeit in a different direction.

Luke Evans

"Without knowing the age range they're looking for," reasons Useful-Perspective, "I would put in a vote for... Luke Evans." Evans is a Welsh actor known for his roles in The Hobbit trilogy, the 2017 remake of Beauty and the Beast, and as the villainous Owen Shaw in Fast and Furious 6.

Evans is a terrific actor that unfortunately often flies under the radar of many audiences, despite his abounding talent. A major role in the MCU would do wonders to reverse that, finally giving the actor the credit he deserves. Evans certainly has the presence necessary to carry a Disney+ miniseries and would be a great addition to the ever-expanding universe of Marvel superheroes.

Brandon Routh

Legends of Tomorrow Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer

"Brandon Routh," writes TheGuardianR when asked who they think would be the perfect choice to play Wonder Man for the MCU. Routh is certainly no stranger to playing superheroes, having played both Superman and the Atom in Superman Returns and the Arrowverse, respectively.

Though many were quick to write Routh off after Superman Returns flopped, the actor has repeatedly shown his skill thereafter, even returning as the Man of Steel in the Arrowverse event "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Now that his time with DC is largely finished, however, Routh is primed and polished to make the jump over to Marvel for a role perfectly designed for his comedic sensibilities.

Jensen Ackles

When prompted to provide their own fancast for Simon Williams, dcarp1231 wrote "Jensen Ackles, if he wasn't currently tied to The Boys." Ackles is best known for portraying Dean Winchester on the long-running CW series Supernatural, a role which he will reprise in the upcoming prequel series The Winchesters.

Ackles has recently dipped his toe into the world of superheroes on The Boys, where he plays Soldier Boy, a character clearly based on Captain America. Though Soldier Boy, like most superheroes in the world of The Boys, is corrupt, Ackles has the straight-laced approach to acting necessary to play an MCU hero like Wonder Man, along with the comedic stylings that make the character so lovable in the comics. While Ackles is "tied to The Boys at the moment," he would only be the latest of several cast members to appear in both that series and the MCU.

James Marsden

Redditor mmcjawa points out that rumors posit that the Wonder Man Disney+ series will have a comedic tone, reasoning that it will therefore require a lead with a history in comedy and no issues with the rise in streaming. They suggest that "James Marsden might be good if you are going with an older actor."

No stranger to playing the superhero, Marsden has recently seen a resurgence in popularity after appearing in both Sonic the Hedgehog films. The actor has been around in Hollywood long enough to properly satirize it in a comedy series about a failing actor who gets enhanced to further his career, perhaps making the former Cyclops actor the perfect man to usher in a new hero to the MCU.

Evan Peters

Evan Peters in WandaVision

Reddit user LittleYellowFish1 believes that Simon Williams could already be in the MCU, suggesting a retcon that would reveal "that Ralph Bohner was actually Simon Williams living under an alias." Bohner was Evan Peters's character in WandaVision, who, in one of the more disappointing twists in the MCU, was originally set up as the returning Quicksilver from the X-Men film franchise.

After the disappointment from fans regarding Peters's involvement in WandaVision, it would be wise on Marvel's part to retcon the character into something more crowd-pleasing. Peters is certainly a talented enough actor to transform his ditzy and unlikeable character into one worth rooting for and certainly deserves to play a larger role in the MCU than a mere throwaway example of stunt casting.

Jon Hamm

A Reddit user under the name mmcjawa believes that Jon Hamm would be a fantastic fit for the role. They write that the Mad Men actor would be "particularly good, as I could see him plating the conceited and shallow actor pretty [well]."

Hamm has a long history of portraying relatively unlikable characters in a way that makes audiences root for him, much to their surprise. Given the actor's talent and popularity, it is somewhat surprising that he hasn't yet made his way into the largest franchise in the history of cinema. Wonder Man could be the perfect opportunity to amend this oversight and finally give Hamm the superhero role of a lifetime.

Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion Wonder Man

Redditor Pezfortytwo has a very emphatic answer as to who they'd like to see take on the role of Wonder Man, writing "I will always answer Nathan Fillion for everything." The Canadian-American actor is best known for his roles on Firefly and as the titular character in the crime drama Castle.

Fillion already has a connection to this role, as he was featured in a deleted scene of Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2, wherein he appears on a movie poster depicting the life of Tony Stark. On the poster, Fillion is credited as "Simon Williams," indicating that the famous actor already exists in the MCU, albeit without his superhero alter-ego. Though this scene did not appear in the theatrical cut of the film, it has led many fans to believe Fillion may already have already been cast as the MCU's Wonder Man.
