Marvel has released a trailer for its oversized special Women of Marvel, a one-shot showcasing female superheroes with an all-female creative team. The trailer reveals the variety of beautiful covers offered for the special along with a list of the impressive creative team, which includes both newcomers and already established writers and artists in Marvel's Universe. The book begins with an introduction by the legendary Louise Simonson, the creator of Power Pack.

The comic company has been making strides to further diversify its creative teams and comic book characters, highlighting the importance of diversity by creating initiatives like Marvel Voices in celebration of Black History Month, a one-shot focused on indigenous creators and characters, as well as an upcoming special celebrating Pride MonthWomen of Marvel exemplifies the initiative within its pages, along with the accompanying podcast that features interviews with numerous creators from all walks of life.

The trailer premiered on the Marvel Comics website the day before Women of Marvel #1 comes out in comic book stores. In the trailer, we see the amazing cast of comic characters and the creative team that will be bringing the book to life, along with the regular and variant covers previously unveiled with the solicitation for the book. The main cover by Sara Pichelli features fan-favorites Elektra, Gamora, Storm, Valkyrie, and Shuri. The Amanda Conner variant has She-Hulk, Tigra, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing stealthing their way through a pet store. Peach Momoko's variant has Scarlet Witch taking center stage while Maria Wolf's variant has Magik facing off against a horde of foes.

The trailer highlights several characters with stories in the oversized special. Some stories span only a page while others go on for more than a handful. There will be 11 stories in total, some highlights including "Operation Spyglass," a WWII Peggy Carter story written by Elsa Sjunneson with artwork by Naomi Franquiz and colors by Brittany Peer; "Wild Rhino Chase" featuring a fight between She-Hulk and Rhino from writer Nadia Shammas with artwork by Sklar Patridge and colors by Triona Farrell; and "Give a Cat a Bone..." about the X-Man Marrow written by Sophie Campbell with artwork by Eleonora Carlini and colors by Triona Farrell.

Rather than have this be a one-shot, it would be nice to see Women of Marvel become an ongoing series. Each issue could be oversized and feature self-contained shorts, running the gamut between well-known Marvel characters and shining a spotlight on the lesser-known characters as well. Women of Marvel #1 was a Marvel first for some of the creative team, including writer Zoraida Córdovaand artist Maria Fröhlich, who teamed up to write the Gamora story. This seems to be laying the perfect groundwork for future issues that could introduce newcomers to the Marvel Universe, both character-wise and creator-wise. The comic is brimming with possibilities, and depending on how it goes over, it would be interesting to see if Marvel were to pursue an ongoing series rather than just serving as an advertisement for a variety of solo and team titles. Plus it serves to hopefully improve the way women are written in comics, which Marvel commented on in Amazing Mary Jane. It's certainly a win marketing-wise for Marvel either way.
