It's the first box office of the New Year, and as expected the top 10 remained relatively unchanged.

In at number 1 for the third weekend in a row is The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies with $21.9 million. That's a solid performance from an old film in the first week of January and pushes The Hobbit over the $200 million domestic mark. All told, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has grossed $220 million domestic and $722 million worldwide.

Not far behind is Into the Woods at number 2 with $19 million. Disney's musical adaptation has been doing excellent business since its Christmas release and is now up to $91 million total.

Unbroken comes in at number 3 with $18.3 million. Angelina Jolie's latest directorial effort may not have the awards pull that Universal hoped it would, but $81 million since Christmas is still impressive.

The number 4 film this weekend is The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (read our review) with $15.5 million. That's about $5 million lower than the first film, which opened to a surprising $20 million in February 2012.

The Woman in Black 2 lost a little of appeal clearly, without Daniel Radcliffe in a lead role. However, since the movie reportedly cost very little to make and market, it will likely come out fine in the end.

Rounding out the top 5 is Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb with $14.4 million. The threequel held better than most in the first weekend of 2015 and is now up to $89 million.

In at number 6 is Annie with $11.4 million. The other musical adaptation released during the holidays, Annie has grossed $72 million so far.

The Imitation Game comes in at number 7 with $8.1 million. Benedict Cumberbatch's awards contending biopic upped its theater count by 7 and saw a slight uptick as a result. All told, the movie has grossed $30 million so far.

The number 8 film this weekend is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 with $7.7 million. It hasn't surpassed Guardians ($332M) domestically yet, but The Hunger Games' penultimate chapter is up to $323 million domestic and $695 worldwide.

Coming in at number 9 is The Gambler with $6.3 million. Not much to say about this Mark Wahlberg-led remake, which has grossed $27 million so far.

Rounding out the top 10 is Big Hero 6 with $4.8 million. Disney's latest animated feature snuck back into the top 10 and added a tiny bit to its $211 million domestic total.

Outside the top 10: Clint Eastwood's American Sniper added an impressive $640,000 to its total on the same four screens as last weekend. Look for the film to make a deep run when it expands to more theaters later this month.
