Wolverine Title, Release Date And Younger Version

I haven't updated news on the upcoming Wolverine movie because really there hasn't been too terribly much to talk about. Now a few things have piled up so here's a summary of where things stand at the moment...

The young boy in the image above has been selected to play the very young version of Wolverine before he became the adamantium skeleton-covered, claw wielding fellow we all know and love. Before that his name was Logan and it seems that they'll be going further back than I thought with the character. Considering the addition of the 11 year old in the photo above with the unusual name of Kodi Smit-McPhee (parents, what WERE you thinking?) the recently revealed title seems appropriate:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

My first thought was that this was the direction the X-Men movies may be going in and that this could possibly be called X-Men 4? I don't know but the "Origins" in the title being plural leads me to believe that this may be the first in a series. Or I could be totally off track. :-)

Beyond that, the release date has been announced as being May 1, 2009 and here are some production dates if you're interested:

- Prep: Beginning October 8th

- Shooting: Dec 10, 2007 - January 18, 2008 with a 2 week break from December 21st through January 7th, 2008

On the scary front, it seems that the studio is desperately looking for someone to come in and rewrite the script before the dreaded writer's strike hits.

The movie explores Wolverine's violent and romantic past, as well as his complex relationship with Victor Creed, the ominous Weapon X program, and his encounters with other mutants right on through to his becoming an indestructible weapon with razor sharp claws.
