Scott Eastwood tells us he would be up for playing the next live-action Wolverine when the character is inevitably re-introduced in the X-Men film universe. The actor's career has been on the rise over the past several years. After a supporting role in David Ayer’s Fury, he co-starred in The Longest Ride before reuniting with Ayers on Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad seemed to help Eastwood make the jump into some big budget, blockbuster style films as he’s since appeared in The Fate of the Furious and now is co-starring alongside John Boyega in Pacific Rim Uprising.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Eastwood indicated that his time on these major tentpole films has been enjoyable and that not only is he interested in continuing to pursue these parts, but also that he has his eye on what might be one of the most sought after roles in Hollywood moving forward: Wolverine!

During our interview, Eastwood was asked if he’d consider making more superhero films following his work in Suicide Squad:

Scott Eastwood: Yeah, definitely. I mean, you know, If the opportunity presents itself…

Screen Rant: A lot of people have fancast you as Wolverine, have you heard this?

Scott Eastwood: I’ve heard this.

Screen Rant: What do you think about that?

Scott Eastwood: I love Wolverine. He’s one of my favorite comic book characters of all time. He’s a renegade. Total badass renegade. He’s kind of, you know, a loose cannon...doesn’t play by the rules...he’s the kind of character that I love.

Screen Rant: If they got that call, you’d be totally down for the Wolverine?

Scott Eastwood: 100%

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men Days of Future Past

Following Hugh Jackman’s well-loved approach to the character would certainly be a bold move for any actor, but it’s especially interesting for Eastwood since Jackman has gone on record to indicate that Eastwood’s father, the legendary Clint Eastwood, served as inspiration for his take on the character. However, as Scott looks to make his own mark on the industry, this would be one role that would certainly indicate taking things to the next level.

Given Eastwood’s relatively young age and the current trajectory of his career, it’s entirely within the realm of possibilities that Marvel Studios might bring him in for a look should their merger with 21st Century Fox become finalized. If it does go through, we’re still a few years away from seeing Wolverine join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we’ll have to wait and see how things unfold; however, it’s good to know that one of Hollywood’s ascending stars not only has his eye on the role, but that he also seems to have a good understanding of the character.
