At one point, Wolverine became the new Iron Fist in order to turn his adamantium claws into god-killing weapons in Marvel Comics. This event happened in New Avengers #6, as a part of Marvel’s Heroic Age. The issue was written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Stuart Immonen.

In the aftermath of the Dark Reign storyline, Commander Steve Rogers gave the newest members of the Avengers keys to Avengers Mansion. Soon after, they found themselves under a mystical attack from the powerful being, Agamotto, who, unsurpringly, sought the Eye of Agamotto. Though most commonly associated with Doctor Strange, the Eye of Agamotto now belonged to Doctor Voodoo, who had replaced Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme. To combat Agamotto, Voodoo challenged him directly, and to have the best chance at victory, the New Avengers decided to combine their powers into a single vessel – Wolverine.

Iron Fist was in attendance, so Wolverine’s claws were imbued with his amazing power. Wolverine’s most prominent physical change in this form was Iron Fist’s trademark dragon burned onto his chest along with Daimon Hellstrom’s pentagram. They weren’t the only two to give Wolverine their power, though. He gained the strength of physical Avengers like Ben Grimm and Luke Cage as well as the mystical powers of Stephen Strange and Doctor Voodoo, who assisted Wolverine using spells while he fought Agamotto in the light dimension. In order to distract Wolverine during the battle, Agamotto continually changed shape into Logan’s various allies and enemies, taking on the appearance of Jean Grey, Apocalypse, Sabertooth, Captain America, and more. But even so, the trick did nothing to stop Wolverine’s attacks.

Ultimately, Wolverine’s powered up form wasn’t enough to win the battle. The spirit of Doctor Voodoo’s brother, Daniel, had been lost inside Agamotto’s light dimension and joined the battle to help Wolverine. Viewing this as a breach in the battle’s rules, Agamotto sought to destroy Wolverine and Daniel completely. Seeing his brother’s spirit in trouble, Doctor Voodoo leapt into action and used the Eye to destroy Agamotto once and for all. Unfortunately, both the Eye and Doctor Voodoo were destroyed in the process, much to Dr. Strange’s dismay, as now Earth was without its Sorcerer Supreme.

It says a lot about Wolverine that none of the other New Avengers objected or even nominated themselves to be their chosen warrior. Doctor Voodoo wanted the role, but only because he felt this mystical battle was his responsibility as Sorcerer Supreme. But Wolverine volunteered almost immediately because they all knew he was the hero for the job, and not just because of his healing factor. The New Avengers were tight for time with the fight starting almost imminently. Absorbing everyone's power might be tough for other heroes to incorporate into their fighting style, but Wolverine is raw, feral, and fights on instinct. Wolverine was by far the best choice to take in everyone abilities and go right after Agamotto without hesitation.
