Wolverine is considered many things in the Marvel universe, but he is not invulnerable, and he is not unstoppable. Although it takes an exceptional amount of power or skill, the legendary X-Man can be killed when he least expects it. Hopefully, in outrageously spectacular fashion.

In Secret War #5 by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Gabriele Dell’Otto, a group of Avengers face a near-decimation at the hands of high-tech supervillains, led by former Latverian Minister Lucia von Bardas. The heroes are saved by a last-minute intervention from SHIELD Agent Daisy Johnson -- codename "Quake" -- allowing the surviving heroes to be joined by the X-Men, and start to demand answers from Daisy's boss, SHIELD Director Nick Fury. The good news is that Fury explains the entire situation is retaliation for an unofficial, unsanctioned operation he put together years in the past. The bad news... is that Fury erased their memory of the event, which is why they can't remember. Needless to say, Wolverine doesn't take too well to having his memories messed with.

Considering Fury is aware of the amount of brainwashing he endured in his life, Logan calls him out over his methods -- especially since he could have simply asked Wolverine to accept the mission. But when Nick Fury claims he couldn't "take the chance," Logan loses himself to a full berserker-like rage. He would have attacked Fury and cut him to pieces, if not for Agent Johnson’s heart-stopping intervention.

Wolverine Heart Explode Comic

Daisy Johnson commands him to stop only once before pinpointing her power set on the murderous Wolverine. Logan stops in his tracks as a splatter of blood erupts in his shirt and he drops to the floor. As the heroes’ rush to his body, Daisy simply states what she has done and calmly asks any of the others present if they would like to try their luck. Intimidated enough, her actions are distracted by the realization that the Fury present is nothing more than a Life Model Decoy being commanded by the real Nick Fury remotely.

Daisy’s loyalty to Nick Fury is admirable, considering the length she’d go to protect him, but making an enemy out of Wolverine is never a good idea. Logan heals from having his heart exploded in seconds (answering one question), but none present would ever forget it. Daisy Johnson would be dismissed from SHIELD following the events of Secret War until she was requested to help the Avengers during their fight with The Collective, and later a re-powered Magneto -- where Captain America commands Daisy to give Magneto the same attack as Wolverine, but directed at his brain, instead. Yikes.
