Fan art imagines The Boys actor Antony Starr as Wolverine. Starr has been a part of the Amazon series since it premiered last year. The Boys focuses on two different groups: the corrupt superheroes known as the Seven and the Boys, a team of vigilantes who keep them in check. Starr plays Homelander, the leader of the Seven. The Boys has been a definitive hit for Amazon, with season 2 set to premiere later this week. The show has already been renewed for season 3 as well, with Supernatural star Jensen Ackles joining the team as Soldier Boy.

Meanwhile, the Marvel hero Wolverine is most associated with Hugh Jackman, who played the character in several X-Men movies. Perhaps most notably, he starred in 2017's Logan, a smash hit both critically and commercially. However, Jackman has stated he's done with Wolverine now, having started the role in 2000. Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox, and with it the X-Men characters, further complicates matters. At this point, audiences are very familiar with Jackman's take on the character. For this reason, Disney will wait awhile before trying to integrate him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, that will likely be the studio's long term plan.

Even if a new version of Wolverine won't be seen on the big screen for awhile, it hasn't stopped artists from imagining other actors in the role. Last month, Starr named Wolverine the X-Men character he'd most like to play. This led britedit on Instagram to create a piece of fan art with Starr as Wolverine. Check it out below:

The image gives a pretty good idea of what Starr would look like in the iconic Marvel role. It helps he has experience playing a superhero thanks to his work on The Boys. However, Wolverine is decidedly a different sort of hero, which could make for a fun challenge. For his part, Starr is aware Jackman's portrayal is beloved. He mentioned Jackman's would be "big shoes to fill," though it's clear he would love the opportunity to try.

Starr is far from the only actor interested in Wolverine. When Marvel inevitably decides to reboot the character, many big names will likely vie for the role. It's possible the studio may try for someone as different from Jackman as possible, so audiences aren't constantly comparing the two. Whichever lucky actor winds up with the gig has a big task on their hands. However, it sounds like The Boys' Homelander is more than up for the challenge.
