Apple has dropped a teaser for Wolfwalkers, the newest 2-D animated feature from Cartoon Saloon. Set to premiere at TIFF later this month, it will stream exclusively on Apple TV+ after its initial theatrical run. The Kilkenny-based studio has become a household name in animation, standing next to stop-motion masters Laika as perpetual dark horses during awards season. They've received best animated feature nominations at the Oscars for each of their first three films, and Wolfwalkers is slated to start Apple TV+ off strong with its expanding animation branch.

Apple released the official Wolfwalkers trailer ahead of the film's debut, letting viewers know it will be on the streaming service soon. You can watch the preview in the space below.

The new film comes from Cartoon Saloon co-founder Tomm Moore, director of the studio's first two films, The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, this time with Ross Stewart co-directing. Both of Moore's previous films heavily featured Irish folklore at the heart of the story, and Wolfwalkers promises not to fix something that isn't broken. The minute-long teaser offers more of the beautiful, medieval art-inspired design, fluid 2-D animation, and dreamlike mythology that Moore has become known and revered for.

Wolfwalkers follows apprentice hunter Robyn Goodfellowe, who travels with her father to Ireland to exterminate the last wolfpack. When she ventures into the forbidden forest beyond the city walls, she meets Mebh, a Wolfwalker. She and her compatriots have the power to become wolves when they sleep, and as Robyn befriends her and aids her in the search for her mother, she lands in a conflict between her father's duty and her bond to the Wolfwalkers, as well as her own apparent transformation.
