Wolfenstein Sequel Wants You To Take Back America From Nazis

Wolfenstein II Trailer Wants You to Fight Nazis

The first official trailer for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus from video game developer MachineGames and publisher Bethesda has just been released online. Following the two studios' past work on the franchise reboot Wolfenstein: The New Order from 2015, the longrunning first-person shooter series has seen a significant uptick in regards to its core narrative template and hyper-violent gameplay aesthetic, thus sparking development on the sequel.

Originally released as an Apple II computer game from developer Muse Software in 1981 as Castle Wolfenstein, the series has undergone numerous transformations over the course of the past thirty-plus years, most recently coming in the form of Wolfenstein: The New Order. After the rights to the property changed hands in 2010, MachineGames took full control of the first-person shooter series from Software, and began expanding the extent to which chief protagonist BJ Blazkowicz could be seen as a more well-rounded and three-dimensional character. What's more, the latest trailer for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus promises more of the same in due time.

In the footage featured above, potential players can catch a sneak peek behind the curtain at all the Nazi-killing action that the new game will have to offer. Following the events of The New OrderWolfenstein II: The New Colossus is set to take players back into the thick of it as BJ Blazkowicz. Tasked with taking back Nazi-ruled America in a fictitious 1961 setting, the latest title from MachineGames and Bethesda is sure to please fans of the preceding reboot, with an official plot synopsis that reads as follows:

America, 1961. Your assassination of Nazi General Deathshead was a short-lived victory. Despite the setback, the Nazis maintain their stranglehold on the world. You are BJ Blazkowicz, aka “Terror-Billy,” member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity’s last hope for liberty. Only you have the guts, guns, and gumption to return stateside, kill every Nazi in sight, and spark the second American Revolution.

After The New Order saw fit to take the series in a decidedly more fictional direction, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will allow players to further explore the highly original world developed by MachineGames in 2015. Featuring a whole host of new and returning allies, a devastating arsenal of guns and advanced technology, and the ability to take out your enemies in a particularly gruesome fashion, the latest first-person shooter from Bethesda aims to please.

With any luck, MachineGames and Bethesda will manage to make good on all of the promise that their latest franchise title ostensibly has to offer - and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will be greeted with much the same kind of warm reception that was received by The New Order in 2015.
