Warning! SPOILERS ahead for 3Below: Tales of Arcadia season 2.
The next installment in Netflix's Tales of Arcadia is Wizards - here's everything we know about the upcoming series. The first two series in the animated anthology from Guillermo del Toro and DreamWorks Animation, Trollhunters and 3Below, establish the town of Arcadia and the strange happenings that take place there. With Wizards, the anthology series will come to a close, bringing together characters from both prior shows for a grand finale.
Trollhunters introduces Jim Lake, the first human Trollhunter who along with his friends must protect both the humans and trolls of Arcadia from an ancient evil. In 3Below, two alien royals, Aja and Krel, crash land in Arcadia and must work alongside their human (and one troll) friends to protect their new home from invasion. Now in Wizards, the characters of these two shows will come together in order to defeat some as-of-yet unknown enemy that is threatening to destroy not just Arcadia, but the whole world!
Here's everything we know and expect for Wizards: Tales of Arcadia.
Wizards: Tales of Arcadia Release Date
Neither Netflix nor DreamWorks Animation has announced a premiere date for Wizards: Tales of Arcadia, but the series is expected to debut on the streaming service in Fall 2019. As the concluding chapter in Tales of Arcadia, it isn't yet known whether the series will have more than one season. However, given that Trollhunters ran for three seasons, 3Below for two, and with Wizards being the culmination of the entire anthology, it wouldn't be all that surprising if Wizards is just a one season show.
The Wizards: Tales of Arcadia Cast
As the final chapter in Tales of Arcadia, Wizards is expected to reunite most if not all the characters introduced on 3Below and Trollhunters. This would include Aja (Tatiana Maslany), Krel (Diego Luna), and Varvatos Vex (Nick Offerman) as well as Jim (Emile Hirsch), Claire (Lexi Medrano), Toby (Charlie Saxton), Blinky (Kelsey Grammer), and AAARRRGGHH!!! (Fred Tatasciore). Additionally, the many residents of Arcadia who have had minor roles on both series will likely also appear in Wizards.
As for cast members we know will return for Wizards, only Steve Palchuk (Steven Yeun) and Eli Pepperjack (Cole Sand) are confirmed to appear - making them the only characters to have been in all three Tales of Arcadia series. Also expected to return is Merlin (David Bradley), which makes perfect sense seeing as he's the only actual wizard to have been so far introduced.
The Story of Wizards: Tales of Arcadia
Specific details about Wizards: Tales of Arcadia's story have not been released, but the final scene in 3Below season 2 does hint at what's to come. In that scene, Toby, Steve, and AAARRRGGHH!!! run into a talking black cat who warns them that the world as they know it is about to end. By now, a world-ending threat in Arcadia is nothing new, but being forewarned about it by a wizard's familiar doesn't bode well. Also, the only known wizard is Merlin, and he didn't have a familiar in Trollhunters let alone a black cat familiar. So who is the cat working for? That's a question Wizards is sure to answer, possibly even revealing more magic-users in the process.
In addition to that teasing final scene, an earlier moment in 3Below season 2 may provide more clues about what will happen in Wizards. During season 2, episode 11, "Race to Trollmarket", Toby reaches out to Jim and Blinky for help, and during their conversation (relayed over video) Jim is seen fighting a mysterious figure clad head to toe in white armor. There's no character who fits that description, but the armor looks reminiscent of the armor worn by both Merlin and Morgana - the evil enchantress and primary villain of Trollhunters. If Morgana has returned, this white knight might be working for her, and it may be she who is threatening to (again) end the world.
Along with these more overt hints at what may be in store on Wizards: Tales of Arcadia, another scene in 3Below season 2 reveals that the Akiridians and trolls actually first met hundreds of years ago. With Del Toro suggesting that Wizards will tie together the mythology of both Trollhunters and 3Below, it seems likely that there are some bigger secrets to still be revealed.
