If there is something video game fan loves more than anything, it's a battle royale between characters. Whether it be heroes or villains, video game lovers are always hoping to see one video game property butt heads with another, and there are no characters more willing for a fight than The Witcher's Geralt of Rivera.
Armed with magic and weaponry rivaling any game, Geralt is quite the foe to face for any game character, with fans always speculating who might win or lose against the Witcher. Here are five video game heroes Geralt could slay, as well as five he can't.
Could: Link (Legend Of Zelda)
When it comes down to it, Geralt's strength mainly comes from his swordplay, enabling him to combat epic foes in fierce duels and take down even the most vicious of beasts. So, when fans start to imagine what fellow swordsmen could take him on, their minds jump to Link.
Now, despite Link being a swordsman, among other details, he wouldn't stand a chance against Geralt, with his blade barely doing any damage against Geralt's own. In the end, the hero of Hyrule wouldn't last long against the Witcher in a duel.
Can't: Dante (Devil May Cry)
If one is to challenge Geralt of Rivera to a duel, they must come well prepared, not just with a blade, but with plenty of tricks up their sleeves. Enter Dante, a half-demon, half-human fighter from the world of Devil May Cry.
Equipped with everything from his two pistols, ebony and ivory, to a vast variety of swords and with the ability to tap into his demonic heritage, Dante would make a worthy adversary for Geralt, taking the Witcher down with tricks and switching between swords and pistols.
Could: Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog)
For one reason or another, video game characters always seem to come in two forms. Either terrifying and dark characters with brutal backstories and vicious abilities or cute and cuddly animals, robots, or people with great powers like a hedgehog named Sonic.
Given Geralt's impressive collection and knowledge of potions, there's no doubt something out there would allow the Witcher to see Sonic coming even with his super-speed and prepare for him with traps and weapons, easily taking the blue streak before he can even get a chili dog.
Can't: Agent 47 (Hitman)
Given that Geralt is from a world stuck in medieval times, pitting him against someone from the present like Agent 47 is basically a death sentence. Geralt's primary weapons are from the dark ages and aid him in fights against medieval beasts, sorcerers, and assassins.
Agent 47, however, is well trained, and, while Geralt does have magic on his side, Agent 47 has a sniper rifle. All he would need is a good line of sight on Geralt and a squeeze of the trigger, and the Witcher would be no more.
Could: Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
One would think that being a survivalist would actually be a benefit when going up against Geralt, and, as such, Lara Croft, who's been through just about everything, would be able to survive in the wilderness long enough to take on Geralt.
Unfortunately for Lara, she lacks one thing: magic. While she's an expert at using the wilderness to her advantage and sneaking through booby-trapped tombs, Geralt's would simply be able to utilize magic to see through her tricks and traps to take the tomb raider down.
Can't: Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)
Fighting monsters and magic-wielding assassins is one thing, but fighting a vengeance spirit from another realm is another threat altogether. The fan-favorite Mortal Kombat fighter Scorpion is quite the foe to face off against.
With the ability to use hellfire, shoot spikes from his hands, and perform brutal fatalities, Scorpion would make quick and brutal work of Geralt. Either impaling him with his spikes or blowing fire in his face, Scorpion would fatality Geralt in no time at all.
Could: John Martson (Red Dead Redemption)
While there have been plenty of gun-wielding heroes in video games, there are very few actual gunslingers. Cowboys or outlaws are some of the more dangerous and unpredictable characters in the old west, and someone like John Marston could drop anyone dead in the blink of an eye.
When going up against Geralt, though, Martson had best be quicker on the draw than the Witcher. While not possessing any guns, Geralt could just as easily pull out a knife and kill John before the clock finishes chiming high noon.
Can't: Doomguy (Doom)
Picture this: Geralt of Riveria, the Witcher, going up against one of the strongest, most insane, and heavily armed characters in video game history, Doomguy. The picture is probably accompanied by death metal music and lots of flames.
When going up against Doomguy, Geralt wouldn't even stand a chance. For one, the Doomguy has been proven to be invincible to just about every attack, and, for another, if his impressive cache of over-the-top guns doesn't take Geralt down, he'll simply rip and tear the Witcher apart with his bare hands.
Could: Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil)
Now, the world of Resident Evil is a brutal and merciless place full of zombies and monsters unlike anything seen before. The kind of skill and endurance one needs to survive is something that few possess, with Leon Kennedy being chief among the survivors.
While Leon has faced down many terrifying foes, the Witcher is nothing like a T-Virus infected Tyrant. Instead, Geralt has the advantage of his skill and wits and would easily outthink and maneuver Leon's attacks in a heartbeat.
Can't: Kratos (God Of War)
Playing video games has a tendency to give people a bit of God complex sometimes, making them feel as though they're invincible as a certain character. When one plays a Geralt, they feel as though nothing can touch them and they're like that of a god... until they meet an actual god.
The brutal God Of War Kratos slaughtered the Olympian pantheon single handly before moving into other worlds and wreaking havoc there. He's so powerful that a fight between him a Geralt would be over before it even started.
