Judging by new set photos, The Witcher season 2 may feature non-human fighters known as the Scoia'tael. The Henry Cavill-starring fantasy series has been a massive hit for Netflix since its premiere in December 2019. It's brought in fans of the original book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, as well as those new to the franchise. The Witcher season 1 was based on the short story collections The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. It followed main characters Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer at different points in time. As of now, season 2 is set to premiere in 2021.

Unfortunately, The Witcher has faced a number of challenges while filming season 2. Production has paused two different times due to the coronavirus, meaning work on the season has spanned nearly a year. Additionally, Cavill sustained a leg injury on The Witcher's set, though filming has been able to continue around him. Despite the setbacks, though, excitement remains high for season 2. As production began so long ago, the first set photos and reports made their way online early this year. In February, it was reported that what appeared to be the Scoia'tael were seen on set, though it was unconfirmed at the time. Now, there seems to be more concrete evidence the group will appear in season 2.

Netflix shared three photos from The Witcher's season 2 set. In one image, what appears to be the insignia for the Scoia'tael can be seen. This, coupled with the previous set report, suggests they'll appear in the upcoming season.

The presence of the Scoia'tael will likely spell trouble for Geralt and the others. They're a brutal group of fighters who have a rather large impact on the book series. It's hard to predict the role the Scoia'tael will play in The Witcher season 2, if they do in fact appear, as Geralt comes across them multiple times in Sapkowski's work. Based on their history, Geralt will be unhappy to see them in season 2.

With many recent teases about The Witcher's new episodes, viewers are eager for a release date announcement. Unfortunately, it may be awhile, as filming continues on season 2. The delays haven't helped matters, though it's still possible The Witcher will return in 2021. Since season 1 premiered in December, the new season could follow suit. That would give the show plenty of time to finish filming and post-production work on the new episodes, with a bit of a cushion as well. While fans wait for an announcement, hopefully Netflix continues to share photos from season 2.
